Also go to the local menards or home depot or lowes and get what they call a "in-line" duct fan works awesome
Ive thought about this but most ive seen are fairly expensive, at least $50. Id like to use hps but im concerned about the heat up there. might not be so bad now but will be in a couple months.

Im thinking something like this. Im just gonna section off the attic to make the room so it could be comparitively bigger so that I could have fans inside and wont heat up as much but still have smaller overall inlet and outlet air. perhaps an inline instead of the fan.

The hps light does put off heat but not enough to make it to hot yeah summer time is coming and its gonna get hot you will need lots of air circulating thru that attic lots you don't want it to be to hot best bet would be to not use the attic unless you do section it off and install a fan to pump hot air out and new fresh air in. But even then you don't know how hot it actually gets until you get up there with the lights and start growing also you want to remember an attic is a safe place is it a good place to grow could you easily get water dirt nutrients and everything else there and are you gonna be in close supervision something could go wrong per sey and your grow could lose your whole grow if the temp raised to high attic is a great idea. But is it easier to find a different grow spot or easier to prep the attic. How much time and money r u planning on spending

would prefer not to spend much other than lights and nutes but am willing to give them plenty of time. attic is pretty much the only option. shouldnt be too tuff to get stuff up there, just dont know about the heat in a couple months. also will prob only be able to check on them once a day and maybe have to skip a day now and then.

get rid of some of that insulation that up in there. thats whats making it hot. and fiber glass is probably not good to get blown into the box.

thanks for the reply. How do you have yours set up? I wanna say our attic is pretty sealed from the house but has a few vent to outside.

Heya Diddy. I was just reading over your post and your plans for an attic grow. If your attic has a vent leading to the outside, check to see if there is an exhaust fan inside that little vent... if so great if not your going to want to put an exhaust fan in there... Ideally you will want an intake and exhaust fan. Go to Home Depot and buy some cheap AC duct tubing and run the tube from the exhaust fan up above and down to your lights/grow area, and have the intake fan postioned lower and across from your exhaust tubing. Try to position the intake fan so not only does the airflow cool down the lights but also creates a nice breeze for your grow,. Good luck to ya. "keep it Green"

If you havent started your mission yet, I have another suggestion. Scrap the attic idea.

Save up some $$$. Go to home depot or lowes and buy a storage closet. they are 80 to 100 $$. they measure around 2x1.5x6ft. put a lock on it. you can run an extenention cord and a power strip from the rear. you shouldnt secure the back panel completely until you run the stuff in. leave the middle shelf out so all you have is the bottom.

buy a cheap cpu fan with cord to circulate air and vent

make sure u use 250w or lower HID or a bunch of cfl.

also buy a thermometer to monitor those temps.

smell should be an issue if the room air is vented but inside the closet would be strong.

good luck

Have already started but I think it may turn out ok. Problem now is that a couple of them are getting some weird marks on them. they look like very tiny rips through the leaf. gonna go read up...

Ended up going with the attic. Used thick painting plastic to section off an area about 3.5X5X4.5H, with a pop-off sealed door. Put in a 400W hps. put one fan venting air out through a vent in the roof then another sucking in air through 6in ducting that is spliced into the house ac duct just before it reaches the ceiling vent. Have the lights on at night and early morning. This way the hottest part of the day has no light bc the attic gets pretty warm. Its sucking 70F air from the house constantly and really cold air periodically as the ac turns on. The room has stayed low 70s at night and fluctuates up to about 90F on hot days, so not too horrible. May have to get an ac unit as it gets warmer.
