Ok, I am confused about something when it comes to trichome color/harvesting/strains

I am coming close to harvesting my first plant and have been doing a little research along the way. I understand sativa strains=heady high, indica strains=couchlock high. I have been reading that when trichomes are cloudy this= heady high, when trichomes are amber this= couchlock, and 50/50 is a mix. If this is the case, when it comes to the type of buzz one wants, what is the point in picking a sativa or indica strain if it seems this can be manipulated during one's grow?

The majority of high or stone or combination of each you get from any strain will be based in its genetics. All you are doing is fine tuning it. You cannot harvest a heavy indica when the trichs are slightly clear and mostly milky and turn it into a clear soaring cerebral sativa head high and you cannot harvest a true sativa when the trichomes have darkened and turn it into a heavy couch-lock body stone.

You find a strain you like and then you fine tune it to your personal preference …. That is all that is being done.
