15 Shocking Poverty Statistics.
#1 Approximately 45 million Americans were living in poverty in 2009.
#2 According to the Associated Press, experts believe that 2009 saw the largest single year increase in the U.S. poverty rate since the U.S. government began calculating poverty figures back in 1959.
#3 The U.S. poverty rate is now the third worst among the developed nations tracked by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
#4 According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, on a year-over-year basis, household participation in the food stamp program has increased 20.28%.
#5 The number of Americans on food stamps surpassed 41 million for the first time ever in June.
#6 As of June, the number of Americans on food stamps had set a new all-time record for 19 consecutive months.
#7 One out of every six Americans is now being served by at least one government anti-poverty program.
#8 More than 50 million Americans are now on Medicaid, the U.S. government health care program designed principally to help the poor.
#9 One out of every seven mortgages in the United States was either delinquent or in foreclosure during the first quarter of 2010.
#10 Nearly 10 million Americans now receive unemployment insurance, which is almost four times as many as were receiving it in 2007.
#11 The number of Americans receiving long-term unemployment benefits has risen over 60 percent in just the past year.
#12 According to one recent survey, 28% of all U.S. households have at least one member that is looking for a full-time job.
#13 Nationwide, bankruptcy filings rose 20 percent in the 12 month period ending June 30th.
#14 More than 25 percent of all Americans now have a credit score below 599.
#15 One out of every five children in the United States is now living in poverty.

No! Why would the government ever give a shit about it's own citizens?

We should stop aid to other countries. They don't even want us there most of them time, or at least they act like it. We should back off and do some house-cleaning and let the other countries worry about theirs.

I remember when Chrysler had "imported from Detroit" ads ... I'm betting they could use some foreign aid. There MUST be an anticommunist warlord or two there; send Hillary. cn

They never wanted the USA in the first place but there wasn`t any stopping it. Everyone is critisizing what the USA does, but they cover up deaths etc and keep on doing what they are doing. Thats because its for the profit of the USA... Ever watch Joe Rogan critisizing the American war machine? Its on youtube if your interested... The UK did really similar things too... Specially to places like India... Maybe its time to equalise a bit, and set worldwide balances to equal?

An Xbox would cost around $24,000 if made by American labour... True fact apparently.

Please supply the facts for that statement. I was able to find information about iPad and quite frankly it doesn't support your numbers.

An Apple iPad 2 currently sells for $729. Its actual cost to make with FoxConn Chinese workers [who make a whopping $185 / month AFTER their big 30% pay-raise] is $292.77 which means a gross margin of 54%.

If made in the U.S. the same iPad2 would cost $617.77 to make, thus a gross margin of 15.25%.

To keep the same 54% margin, the “Made in America” iPad would cost $1,144.02.

I'm sure the world does appreciate what the US does. I'm not saying it doesn't, and I'm not saying we shouldn't, but the system here at home is broken, why are we not trying to help our own first...? It's so hard to find a job now. I've been out of work for 19 months almost 20... the job market used to be flooded, I now fight with 40 other people for 1 position, WTF?
Now the JOB CREATORS are training people in other countries for english speaking jobs cause it's cheaper? Fuck man I could use a job and you don't have to train me to speak english... The rich get richer and the rest of us are fucked...
wait what's this thread about? stay high

Isn't it the responsibility of the people IN that country to decide their government is horrible and do something about it? We've all had to have a revolution at some point, let them have theirs. The USA has no more place doing what we are than all the Empires of the Middle Ages had to do what they did. You shouldn't interfere in another cultures affairs unless it's a direct threat to you. And no, to you doesn't mean your oil money.

I am a self employed and I outsource much work to the Philippines and India.

I get quality work for a fraction of the price. If I were forced to hire Americans, I wouldn't turn a profit.

if you don't like jobs being outsourced, start a company of your own.

if you are worried about your job being outsourced, learn a trade. Cant outsource plumbers and welders.
