Okay, I finally scored a small amount of weed

Okay, I finally scored a small amount of weed, but not before getting ripped off $40 by someone who left me standing there feeling like an idiot for two hours... (I know, I know, never let someone have your $$ before showing you the goods...), but this guy gave me his wallet, license, social security card etc. so I thought it was safe. Wrrrroooonnnggg again! The cops are putting the screws down here in Asheville...they're on every corner and undercovers are everywhere. Every person you approach says, "I have no idea what your talking about..."

Anyway, I did manage to find a tiny bag for ten bucks. It contained 3 seeds, one healthy, one not so healthy, and one immature seed that probably won't grow.

Now for the questions:

What can I do to maximize the potential that one or all three of these may grow? Germinate or straight to soil?

Second, I keep reading contradictory opinions on soil -- it's confusing. I need something simple and ready to go. Miracle grow soil is bad, correct?

And finally, a lighting question. I bought everything I need to do a rubbermaid grow. I have two vanity light fixtures. When wiring them, is it alright to splice a computer monitor wire and plug to the wires in the light strip? I know the kind of cable and plug that is attached to a drill or saw will work, but will a computer monitor plug work?

hey man Im from palm beach florida but my parents just moved to winston salem I go to FSU. love ashville. I will be up there next week and good hydroponic stores? for a place so liberal and smoker friendly im surprised to here the cops are cracking down.

a monitor plug should work fine...but you cant just run a computer fan off of 110...it's got to be on a 12 volt power supply...hope that helps

yeah bro i live like 10 minutes from raleigh.. and yeah man the cops are crackin down harddd as hell like the past month. the've kicked it up so much. but fuck da police. i smoke weed er' day i dont give a fuck! lol

man im guessin so. but there was someone last month who got caught with 5 acres of plants. some 37,000 plants they said. like in a county about 10 mintues from me. but yeah like these past 2 party ive been to have had pigs visit and its like they are trying as hard as they can now..

man u should get fox farm soil..it works perfect..MG sucks..

Be very shrewd, plain clothes cops are all over the place. I also had a cruiser tail me and take down my plate number simply because I drove by a certain complex known for toke (among other things).

Anyone have any suggestions on how to maximize my chances of one (or all three) of my seeds to grow? Germinate or straight to soil? (See opening post)

Also, miracle grow, bad or good? (Too many conflicting opinions, what's the real consensus?)

Is this something you can get at Lowes or Home Depot?

i never found any from lowes or homedepot..maybe u will find it around ur area...i had to order it online...and it was worth it in my opinion..cuz my plants are loving it..

The only reason I'm concerned is that the wires in the computer moniter cable are just slightly smaller than the wires coming from the vanity lights.

I'm trying to post some pics so you can see. Once I find an image host, I'll post the images.

I just want to be sure. The last thing I need is an electrical fire while I'm asleep or something.

Okay, the wires on the left are from the vanity lights; the three on the right are from the computer monitor cable. Hopefully you can see that the vanity light wires are slightly bigger. It this a non-issue? Just want to be sure....

One thing I didn't mention is that I'm under some time constraints... My parents want to come visit some time at the beginning of November, so I have to start growing right away in order to harvest before then... Any other suggestions concerning simple soil choices?

It'll work fine, just hook white to white, black to black, and groun the green directly to the plate on the fixture. If your's is like mine it came with a little copper wire and screw to ground it. You can run it without the ground, but I figure you got a grounded cord, might as well use it right?

I used it, sure you can grow in it, but because it's loaded with all that time-release crap, you really don't know what or when they all get released into the soil. If you can get 'soilless' potting soil, go for it! all this means is there are no added nutes or ferts in it because pot is so picky to its needs you are better off using your own ferts and nutes. out of 20 plants I lost 2 to MG soil problems, they just died from over fertilization within the soil itself. they lasted almost all the way thru veg, tho so they bacame hash oil plants instead...

Here are the seeds I got from that 10$ tiny bag. I must have been in la la land bacause there are four seeds, not three.

Anayway, this is all I have to work with so I need to know what I can do to maximize their chances of successfully growing. Germinate or straight to soil? Any input on this?

Yep! Copper wire and screw was supplied (and even the plastic screw caps! Great! I'm glad to know that I can get started right away.)

I couldn't find any Mylar so I'm going to try aluminum foil. I figure as long as it's as winkle free as possible, it should work.

yeah bro try to get some mylar still if not just eat up alot of big bags of doritos or something and make it the ghetto way. just cut them open so only the inside shows, wash em off, and tape em up together lol. works really good anyways. aluminum foil on the other hand will reflect ur light but will make hot spots and its not spread evenly. it rather stays in spots from ur lights and can burn the plant. so i wouldnt even recommend putting it up at all

It's not as good as mylar, but better that tin foil: Emergency blankrts at walmart..$2 a whack. They're around
20sq. ft

i mean you could always start them in a diffrent soil..and then transplant them to fox farm..if u order some
