Yup,
pretty sure he nearly decapitated himself.

he had strung wire as a booby trap and he ran right into it on his ATV on his own property.

Darwinism showing the smart people how NOT to protect yourself and home.

Ouch. You would think he would remember where his wire was and not ride there. Unless he lost control or something.

not a fan of booby traps.... that's seriously a dick move especially if it's a cop that gets the fish hook in the eye. going away for a long time if that happens, or if an innocent jackass stumbles on your boobie unknowingly.. real dick move there. I have no sympathy for this guy, of course it sucks to here but meh!

Tussle,
This is used to create a fast perimeter early warning to a group or area,
say around your tent and camp area while you hike.
You will hear it as well as everyone else.
The sound will send any animal running.
Un-wanted People will Probably scurry to!

Any trap or device left out as a perimeter protection requires constant checking and maintenance.

Simple light fishing string stretched around an area with Pop tops on your empty cans and hang by the tab, by stringing cans along it and putting a few pebbles in each can, you can create another simple perimeter Alarm.

Best way to protect is to plant undesired plants like thing that Itch, ( wear gloves and be careful when moving poison oak, ivy.
find large heavily thorny bushes and plant them in certain places. Put a small ditch were needed to cause a person to trip and fall into natural trap.

Bring you trails close to larger trees, you can use things like thicket,I.e. brambles Thorny Stuff to create funnels of movement.

expose tree roots on large trees near the trunk, plant weeds around tree so if someone steps thru they step into a root filled pocket.
Great for causing a twisted ankle.

The trick if someone is coming make them come the way you are ready for, don't leave them options.

A wheel barrow standing in you front or backyard yard with handles tied to string it will fall over if string is pulled at chest height.
use green fishing line! Place over hard ground so it makes good noise or add falling cans to wheel barrow to increase sound.

DZ

There is a reason booby traps are illegal. If you had one in your home and it ended up killing an intruder, even one you would have been justified in killing fir defense reasons, you would be prosecuted.

wait a minute... He has leg snares like one would set for coyotes? ...He did live in the forest, maybe he was catching deer or COYOTES. Not going to catch a fk`ing human with a foot snare....

The piano wire, people put that shit up all the time, this was no booby trap, this was to support large flowers.

The news is really fk`ing stupid, this was not a home-made booby trap, it was an idiot who forgot where the clothes line was.

Well I will reserve judgment in this particular case, as I dont know if this was in fact a booby-trap or just an unfortunate accident involving a support line. And my thoughts go out to his family and loved ones especially since he was obviously blasted by the media already. However I wont deny that he was doing something terribly stupid...

Now for people that use traps with the intent to hurt others, I have no sympathy for, I couldn’t tell you what I would do if I was on a family hike and we accidently came across a grow and one of my children was hurt. People like these I wish do fall into their own traps ... I agree with the post above that we should use non evasive deterrents .. like poison ivy, fake poo :), ect.

I always plant in a huge patch of 3 foot poison ivy . If jimmy cruzin through the bush looking to rip knows anything he is doing a 180' and that way nobody thats out for a hike will stumble in on it

The piano wire was probably being used to deter deer, I use heavy jute twine for that purpose.

I don't see why people use booby traps on 2 legged creatures, b/c if someone hits a trap the crop will eventually be discovered anyways. Plus if you get caught, it's an aggravated cultivation charge.

And even if it isn't, state fish and game will want to know who is setting illegal animal traps.

Hey it's the man's own property , I support his right to defend it. It's not like these 'traps' were on public property

Personaly, I suspect the artice is blown way out of proportion. The coyote trap the artice stated was a leg hold type , these traps would not stop , slow down , or injure anybody. the trap was likely set for nunisance dogs/fox/coon which is legal on your own property.
The piano string across the trail is a common deterrant for ATV riders tresspasing on private land

Personaly I LOVE bobby traps

I don't always decapitate trespassers but when I do I leave them for the buzzards to clean up

Hate to say it but serves him right, better it be him than some neighbor kids exploring the woods. Booby traps will more than likely catch an unintended target(as in this case as well). And all those traps for 4 plants? I think the cops must of missed some.

That's fine and all but every time ive gotten poison ivy, It was after I got out of the woods I realized I encountered it. even now when I notice it it Ill just blaze though it if I got long pants on. I always go by the fact that all animals(humans included) will take the path of least resistant, its instinct. So I venture to areas of considerable resistance, (not so much that I cant get my shit in and out of there, but enough so that most others would be pissing and moaning within 5-10 of being there, swatting the swarms of insects away)
