Opinion on light setup

So, currently I use a 300 watt sunleaves CFL system which generates a 6300K light spectrum and 10K lumens. I have had a desent turnout last time I did a grow. The question I have is I know this light works well for VEG...works well for flowering too but I supplemented it last time with 4 65 watt CFL's at the 3100K spectrum. What do you guys think? Should I use only this sunleaves system for VEG or should I use this sunleaves system plus the 4 65 watt lights as well? I have heard more light the better but if it is not going to make much difference during the veg cycle then I can save on the energy. Also, I originally wanted to keep my light literallly right on top of the plants minus about 1 inch. I am wondering if keeping the plant so close to the light would actually stunt its growth because it seems like the plant almost can judge how close the light is and it does not want to continue upward if it is going to hit the lightbulb...what say you? Thanks for your replies in advance....:joint:

disregard this I think I got enough infor from the CFL pages. Although I have not found much info on the mixture of light spectrums.

just about everybody I see growing with cfls don't have reflectors thereby only utilizing half their light generated so if your not using them either that will increase your output everything else is kosher IMHO add as much light as you can afford too. 2700 K is a better spectrum though.

meh, you can use your red-spectrum lights during veg but they are for flower development. im guessing you may get a little more bud growth, maybe even see sex earlier if you were using those warm CFLs.

i keep the light (t12s) at a fixed height 10" from my seedlings, they stretch up to it but then once they get closer they start to fill out a little more, plus the light isnt too intense for the babies that way.
