Opinions please before I purchase COB's

My aim is to do away with my 3 HID's currently in my 8x4 tent.

I'm planning on building 4 separate lights which will run at around 250w each, but with the flexibility to go up to 400w if driven harder.

Each light will consist of 2 x 1m long passive heat sinks connected with aluminium angle and each carrying 4 cxb3070s, driven by the PF-P400CC-C140-S-DM from Cutter (so 8 cobs per light)

I had decided on a 50/50 split between 3000k/4000k, I know opinions are split on this, is there any latest 'general consensus' on which colour to go for? should I just get 32 x 3500k? I am now leaning more toward all 3500k

Is supplemental deep red or flouro UV worth looking into? These light are gonna be expensive, they may as well be the best I can possibly make them

I'm gonna put my order in soon so any opinions or help would be appreciated..........thanks

I like the 2 bar 8 cob setup a lot. It's what mine is. But i run at 512watts
So half that would require a 1400 dimmable driver. I use just one in a 4x4 and get 851 ppfd. So you running double the cobs at half the power is the same but much better spread. But I think you could get away with just 3 or possibly 2 of them. Just spread the light bars out about 18-20 inches apart. You do need 2, for each heatsink, 140mm fans (assuming your heatsinks are 6" wide (ish)) if you go into the 1.75-1.8amperage like mine though. But that's cheaper than a whole light, (or two.)
BTW the pairui 250watt-1750-1800 can run 4 of the cobs. Meanwell HLG-240H-C1750 (which i reccomend & use) as well.

Sorry, I should have made it clearer, I'll be using the dimming function on the 400w drivers to run at around 750mA to keep the heat down........thats wh I'm going with 4 instead of 3.

And I will be moving to new premises in the not too distant future and the extra capacity could come in handy then.

This is my prototype, it's 9 cxa3070's 3000k running at 1050mA, with some free 6000k led strips from work, the new lights will be like this, but as explained above and the heatsinks I'll be using are longer, wider, taller and with fins right up to the edge. (they're also much cheaper, bonus)IMG_0337.JPG IMG_0332.JPG IMG_0328.JPG

Oh.......the wiring will be a lot neater too due to each light being run off a single driver and me being a little more experienced at building

I've seen that before. Makes me wanna throw some on my build. What are they exactly?

Errrrr can't exactly remember LOL, but I think 24v 3050 smd's run off a cheap 24v driver. I needed to use the light for veg too and though the bluer light would help, they're pulling around 60-70w if I remember correctly, so I doubt they're adding too much. They were left over from an installation at work, so I thought I'd utilise them, LOL

Arrrrgh.......the 3rd photo of the light really winds me up.........I've got a little OCD at times and if you look closely at that photo, there's around 10 smd's blown out of a strip on the right, it kills me man, but I'd have to buy a full reel just to replace those ten LOL

How did that happen?..............did you have to pay local taxes on delivery?

I had the same issues with mouser etc, when building the prototype, I thought there were way around this with cutter and KB?
mouser adds VAT to your cart when you check out

DHL made me pay 40 euro when i received it, VAT and handling fee

with KB i hear he does it sketchy so u dont pay

How'd you get on in the end with shipping to the UK?
I ended up ordering off Jerry/Vikki from kingbrite cos they had the drivers I wanted at the time. The shipping wasn't too pricey from them and although I did have to pay import tax, the product value was marked down, so the tax wasn't as high. I had my cobs and drivers within a week of ordering.

What are you looking at buying?

Looking for something to fill my 1mx1m and saw this on eBay

http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=222366597107&globalID=EBAY-GB

520 quid delivered for two Kits/10 citizen 1212's. I heard the best temps for those are 4k though and also heard bad things about the pairui drivers being unreliable. The guy is on here though and said he would ship without drivers so if I can source MW's from the UK that could be an option.

Honestly though I just want the best kit I can get for my money, would've been so much easier if I had just gone for cree's but after joining here and seeing the other options im overwhelmed.

How's your light treating you? Worth the investment?

That seems like a reasonable deal to me, you could probably source all the parts cheaper yourself, but it'd be a real PITA and you'd have to deal with around 5-6 different companies. I also wouldn't worry too much about the driver offered, we use them at work for commercial installations and I don't recall ever having an faults or callback to any. Plus one of the meanwell drivers I ordered from china packed up on me at as I was putting my ladies into flower and didn't have time to go through 'returns' so had to buy another one from TME.

.......Oh and my COBS are killing it at week 3 even if all my mono's are dying on their assesIMG_8075.JPG

If you want around 200w out of those five Citi modules.
http://www.mouser.co.uk/Search/Refine.aspx?Keyword=HLG-185H-C1050

If you want around 250w
http://www.mouser.co.uk/Search/Refine.aspx?Keyword=HLG-240h-c1400

Free UK delivery and UK VAT is included in price.

A Type has a internal Potentiometer and B modes requires you to wire your own pot or add any type of resistor for dimming. It can also be capped off if your not interested in dimming.

Hope that helps

That room is the stuff of dreams! What size is that? What strains we talking too while we're at it!

Thanks man! I think I'll go with the pairui for convenience and keep that on the back burner if they do pack up!

Never actually measured the room, but roughly 9 x 7 ft. The strains are 6 x PK x livers, 3 x Sunshine daydream, 2 x C99, 1 Blue Iguana and a fat purple, all different pheno's from seed. 3 week into flower
