Opinions Please.....

I would be grateful if you could let me know your thoughts on my first grow (33 days into flower) and when you would advise harvesting, as per the gallery pictures....??

Also if anyone has grown AK48 what are your thoughts on potency and best harvest time?

They don't look too bad to me (but I'm biased!) and they smoke ok. I couldn't resist and last night oven dried a little bud. It was a little harsh taste wise but that's probably to be expected with the nutes still in the soil.

Grow Summary

These are 4 AK48 plants which went on to 12/12 on the 1st June after approx 5 weeks of 18/6. They have been grown in pots in an all purpose compost under a 400w HPS bulb.They have been fed baby bio during veg and I have started Tomatoe feed as well a sprinkling bonemeal on the soil during flowering.

I dont know but thoses look like you done a exelen job so far.

wellgreen, first thing, pat yourself on the back and give yourself a good round of applause! You are a GROWER !
Now is the time that will test your patience.
I'd mark my calender for 7 weeks from the 12/12 Started Flowering date. That lets you know you are getting close. 8 weeks and a few days is a good rule of thumb, but I hope you do not go by the calender or date or number of weeks, it is just another clue that you are getting close. At ABOUT seven to 8 weeks, you will notice the stigmas (white hairs) changing to red, or reddish brown, another clue you are getting closer to HARVEST TIME.

Now the trick or "trich" !!!

TRICH is short for trichomes. Novices call them the little "crystals", it's the itty little bitty looking grains of salt on the buds and bud leaves. Go to Radio Shack, and buy a $9.95 LIGHTED (by batteries) hand held microscope.
You will use it to look at those little trichs or trichomes. Under the microscope, look at the trichiomes on a bud leaf. They look like little clear
tall mushrooms and little clear SPEARS. They start out CLEAR.
There are charts at GROWFAQ, under HARVESTING, that show the trichs, under a microscope. If you harvest when the trichs are clear, you get a HEADY HIGH. If they are dark, you get a tied to the sofa, near death, can't think High.
ALSO a few days b4 Harvest, it is time to decide if you are going to FLUSH, and withhold nutrients to cleanse the taste. Many GROWERS advise placing them in total darkness two days before Harvest too.
I strongly urge you to be reading up on CURING and HARVESTing here at GROWFAQ. Very Important factors for Potency!

Nice grow. I am looking to pick up some AK from a friend. Have they
been under that HPS during veg as well?

Im very new to this myself and just would like to know if you have noticed a difference since you started using the bone meal? I just hope my first indoor grow goes as well as yours has.."It looks like you have done your research"

can sum1 plzzzzzz tell me wen i can start the 12/12 mode im a 1st time grower started germin on the 1st may or do i need to sit and veg sum more..thxs ganjababy...

I wish I was a bottomist or a whoreaculturist.
I'd be able to answer these questions better.
In my opinion,
you start 12/12 at your will, when you are ready. The foremost Deciding Factor is GROW SPACE, in my opinion.
Consider Mother Nature and outdoor growing. Most folks in this hemisphere plant around Springtime, or EASTER, April or May, and when the daylight is less than before, when the days are becoming shorter, VEGGING stops, and then FLOWERING naturally occurs. So naturally, Vegging is about , a BIG ABOUT, about 3 months. So you could VEG for 3 months and then start 12/12. But if you do that, you are going to have some VERY BIG and TALL plants, that will need a ton of lumens or wattage to get good hardy buds not to mention, you will need a Big Tall Grow Space.
Some "closet" growers, desiring a very FAST GROW, and having limited height, start FLOWERING at 2, 3, or 4 weeks, depending on the room they have for HEIGHT growth.
Friend, it is a matter of opinion to most, but some growers feel very strongly different, so just weigh the advise and factors and YOU decide.
If you got a lot of room, and lots of LIGHT, then let them Veg. You'll get a bigger YIELD.
