Optic Vero29 gets V2.0 update

They sent me the updated 200W model to have a look at. Running a pair of Vero29 V2.0 4K at ~2.15A.

Measured:
Power draw warmed up: 186W on 120V -> 1.6A -> .98 power factor. Awesome Mean Well performance as expected.
Temp droop ~3.5%

Estimate:
driver efficiency 91%
drive current ~2.17A
169 dissipation W
40.8% COB efficiency
69 PAR W emitted, 62.2 PAR W after lens losses
319 umol/S (PPF), 287 after lens losses
132 lm/W
22310 lumens


The fixture has some cool updates, the fan covers are bolted in place rather than glued, the side of the case is cut out for better air exhaust, the power cable is connected with a water resistant connector, Wago lever nuts for power distribution.

The lenses are magnetically attached for easy cleaning, 50mm 90 degree glass lenses, perfect size for Vero 29. Very nice cutoff and coverage. If used for a 2'X3' ~512 PPFD averaged. If used for a 2'X2', ~769 PPFD averaged or 15.5 PAR W/ft²

When I first called these guys I said if they are using genuine components, they must have the best grow light ever made and I still stand by that. For those who cannot DIY, we need some awesome performing commercial COB lamps and this thing is putting down some serious light, 769 PPFD average is strong intensity. Retail is $500 although I believe our RIU discount still stands, 10% off code supraspl

Yes, at least @stardustsailor attempted to include some character into his designs...

I guess I would feel like sort of an asshole if @SupraSPL decided to come out and tell us all that he's the head designer of Optic's fixtures...

It's gotta be killing some of us experienced DIY'ers that the Optic is currently the only offered COB-infused fixture out on the market today. Things should lighten up in the coming weeks...

O, you got that far? Ok; 3000K would work great for pure flowering, 4000K works surprisingly well for both vegetating and budding, and 5000K is typically the most efficient in the bunch, meaning more light instead of heat, and is primarily suitable for strictly vegetating.

If you're looking to buy into the COB technology and don't want to do it yourself, wait until June; that's the month when the big dogs come out to show off their products.

The only input I gave was a few paragraphs and a few brief phone calls. Although I think Optic reads these boards thoroughly. My own area of interest is in very high efficiency raw lamps, remote drivers etc, but I recognize that is a much smaller market than the general grow lamp market. So I leave that to Optic and others to bring these lamps to market. A win for everyone especially growers.

You are correct LPF model, slightly higher efficiency than NPF and a few cents cheaper.

For sure, since the case is steel, the magnets will stick. There are 4 small magnets on the lens frame so it grips the case, easily adjustable and removable.
