Well, I got scared. I looked at my mostly clearish trichomes. I saw the grey mold continuing to spread. I looked at the next 2 weeks weather. I decided to cut it down today. Lost ALL my biggest flower to mold. Probably upwards of 1/3rd Oz.
But I will hopefully have some not so grassy tasting stuff

Man, you guys have me worried as hell about things. This rain has been HORRIBLE here. I've got my stuff covered, but still...

Quick question- this is only my second grow, but I've spent hundreds, if not thousands of hours reading and lurking. I haven't had any luck in finding out what has been deposited on my plants. Do you guys know what this black shit is? Is it bug crap? It shows up once or twice a week, and I just chop the whole leaf off....
No idea what the black crap is, but looks like maybe back splash from watering? Top, bottom, all, where do you see these leaves. Dunno. I could also go with insect shit, but it's way oversized, Unless you have mouse-size bugs crawling around I don't think I'd worry about it. More a concern to me would be the brown pistils. Plant seems way too young for the pistils to be dying.

I've got no bud rot yet (knocking on wood). I did get a VERY late start this year though. I'm not expecting to harvest one plant until early or mid November, and the next one should be around early December. I know, I know; I'm screwed..... Lol.
Yup. Come the last half of October, you might as well bend over. Unless you have an adequate green house, of course.

I veg'd over last winter with CFL's and LED's. I just don't have enough power yet to finish these off inside. SO, outside they stay; and soon I will have more grey hair than the geek! (j/k)
Heh. Yup, this time of year it'll get ya.

We were at one of the local hemp fields yesterday. Massive amount of bud rot on almost all of the plants. I'm not sure if that field is a loss or if they are going to try to process it. The owner was busy and I was not able to ask him about it. They are growing it for CBD oil.

Yeah the weather sucks. And at the worst possible time. I have a disabled friend that lives out by the coast. They are on a fixed income and don't have money for equipment or electricity to grow inside and their outdoor grow is what they smoke on all year. He's got PM and bud rot all over his plants. He was almost in tears telling me about it when he stopped by the other day. I gave him a zip of some of my best stuff, a container of dry ice hash, and told him to hit me up later if he needs to. Going to be many people losing a good portion of their crop.
I am in southern Oregon and would totally donate some dry ice hash and flowers. Stories like that make me feel fortunate. To think of the silly shit I complain about.

Anyone try wicking the water off/drying their buds after a rain shower with a electric leaf blower? I do it after a shower instead of shaking the plant I just blow dry them the best I can. You can use a low power electric one on low, you wouldnt want a super powerful gas one

That is such a wonderful gesture

It's been brutal up north for many people. His isn't the only story. I got him covered though. I don't smoke all that much and have more than enough to get him through but thanks for the offer. It is appreciated.

It's not necessarily just the water. It's also been the humidity. I've trimmed some rot off of a couple plants I have in the greenhouse that were nice and dry before we got all the rain. It's been a perfect storm for botrytis. The temperatures and humidity have been perfect here in Portland and towards the NW coast here in Oregon. It's been a good year for fungus.

For sure. I have done mid summer deps in norcal sea of green style flowering through June and July with super low humidity like 30% at night and 4% during the day and still ended up with some bud rot here or there in my dense top kolas this has happened multiple years. Even sometimes with super low humidity the big dense flowers create the perfect microclimate or environment inside the buds where botrytis can thrive. Feel like its just a part of growing huge buds. Here is a pic of one of the greehouses last year that Im referencing

Those pineapple tomatoes look dope man. I've been thinking of trying those next year.. thoughts? Where did you get your seed?
They were cuttings, my mom picked them up from a farmer's market I believe. They're an 85 day variety so it takes quite a while to get ripe fruit. There was a couple week window of great picking, but was a bit close to this crappy weather so they kinda turned on me after that. Decent flavor, squishy meaty texture. They get the normal heirloom strange shapes and odd skin patches.

My 2 X Durban Poisons and Medical OGK were about as close as they were going to get so they came down yesterday. I HATE TRIMMING! It's one of those mindless jobs that reminds me of the value of a college education. GAWD it's boring. Ya know how you're snipping away and when you finished trimming a branch you realize there's only a tiny bud with maybe 5 pistils on it. Crap.

The stress -- I assume from the caffeine toxicity the DPs endured early in the summer -- produced an interesting maroon color on the calyxes:

I didn't follow my own advice and spray down the buds before the last rain with dilute peroxide so bud rot is well establised. Prolly only ~10% loss, so not that big a deal, but could have been avoided.

On a positive note for the weather, the spent substrate blocks I picked up from a local mushroom farmer are flushing like crazy. Chestnut and Lion's Mane. These are the only fungi I want in my garden:

Beautiful, the flower shot and the shrooms!!! I love edible mushrooms. Question on the substrate blocks, are they pre inoculated? Or did you have to inoculate them yourself with spores? Also do you just set those outside and forget about them, then when it rains the mycelium bloom like that? Anyways im loving the maroon color on those buds. Nice work.

I stumbled on the idea of growing the mushrooms. I found a guy on craigslist giving away "mushroom compost" and took my trailer out to get a load for the compost pile. He buys inoculated blocks, grows a crop in a controlled environment, then gives away the bagged "blocks." He gives away ~1000 a week! Hmmm... 2 lbs mushrooms per block, $5/lb wholesale, tick, tick, tick, ... real money.

Anyway, he was surprised when I told him I just wanted it for the compost because he went on to say that most folks grow another crop (or flush, in mushroom grower parlence) from them. When I got home, I asked Dr. Google "how to get a second flush," and there's quite a bit of info.

Check craigslist for "mushroom compost" or "mushroom substrate". I expect you'll get some hits. Careful, though, because some growers pasturized their substrate before giving it away, so ask first.

Today I just couldn't take it any longer, lost so much of my, a month ago beautiful purple. The cream of my crop so to speak, dense chunky and sugary buds. Then came the PM..Got it under control..then the caterpillars, the same..then the bud rot.Lost over 2/3 of my a month ago, gorgeous top colas that were getting sugary AF.Now they're hanging in a friend padlocked garage.Until I pull um and stick the bugs in paper bags to cure and dry nicely..But thankfully my Gelato & my Skittles are about 2,possible 3 weeks out and I'm waterwashing all the nuts leftout of them. This sun sure has been nice, put them back under the "tent" cause the rains coming again..But not sure if we get this high 30s freeze we may, if I'm gonna leave THEM out there to get ruined as well. They may come out early too..This season I learned a lot..mainly about what NOT to do but also what to do if certain things do happen like shitty late season rain,PM,caterpillars and bud rot.For SURE buying a greenhouse for next year.In like a month when they get cheap and available AGAIN

I make my greenhouse out of pvc its pretty easy and you can make any custom size you want how bad was your rot? Also what climate are you growing in what region? We've been getting a good amount of rain in southern Oregon but all my full terms are holding up just fine besides minimal spots of botrytis here and there.20190630_213204.jpg 20190818_115527.jpg

Me and my girlfriend built that 25x60 in 2 days all materials from the good old home depot. If your looking for a cheap small greenhouse I would suggest the eclipse flower house 12x24 powder coated steel easy to put together. 1200 bucks with clear plastic and black out tarp

Thank god I'm also in southern Oregon like right next to northern cali border and inland about 50 miles! This thread is scaring the shit out of me. i finally got the roof plastic on my greenhouse a couple weeks ago My buds are almost ozing resin and really plumping!. It's been really sunny all week BUT on monday and tuesday its supposed get down in the 30s at night! So I'm hoping my heater and dehumidifier will prevent bud rot. Does Southern Oregon even have problems with bud rot and caterpillars?
