yea its funny to me...all the new guys and industry getting into the market dont seem to get it. We all should realize the value from cannabis is directly from the risk to produce it. No legal commodity goes per ounce what cannabis does on the black market. Its funny to me when i see the legal dispensaries charging more then the street, and the quality (atleast in oregon) leaves much to be desired at the price point charged.
Good point. All it will take is some cigarette manufacturer with bottomless pockets to mass produce it, and it will go from luxury to commodity overnight. That said, I think like with microbrews there will always be some market for high quality products.

Yea, to some extent. On the flip side - we have a model for what mass produced cannabis looks like. IDK about you, but I am certainly never going to smoke mexican brick weed again lol.

I hear you about the privatization and the unions, but inevitably tax payers foot the bill and when they go to local budget meetings and they can't pay for school upkeep let alone improvements (for instance) because they are covering these other costs, eventually (I hope) it comes to light and gets worked out. We live in strange times though, I have a really bad percentage of success when it comes to guessing what homo sapiens will do next.

Yea...sadly logic, commen sense, and accountability are no longer the deciding factors. I am much more black and white with many things, as in - its either a crime for all, or a crime for none. The government really is in the amazing middle ground where they get to get both side. They can still seize assests, real estate, cash, cars etc and jail / fine pay cops to enforce, guards to watch us, while also collect massive tax revenue from the legal sells in some states.

It's easy to anticipate the masses. Just think "lower chakra" ,think in a base, selfish way and your on the right track.

We need to focus on fixing community with one another before any of this gets any better imo.

From what I've heard, when the wine industry started moving into Yamhill County they were not welcome. They are now way past "here to stay", but it was not always a smooth ride. This process is bound to have some back and forth.
I haven't figured how to multi-quote yet, so bear with me.

That is my understanding too. And I think part of it is the old school was pissed off 'cause they didn't figure it out first. Kind of the the feeling I get of farmers vs. organic farmers. I have a coworker whose father was a tater farmer down in Klamath, and she goes on about how no one wants to pay the premium and the only way to get marketable produce is to spray the shit out of everything. I finally pinned her down: the younger demographic does want to pay more for healthier food and if you father could have changed somethings and gotten double or more for his crops - he would have. Not even counting the health repercussions he's suffered. And she shops at Market of Choice all the time.

I like this thread. Thoughtful discussion. I'm for complete deregulation, it should be like tomatoes or mint. It happens to be the most useful medicinal plant on the planet and should be part of the human heritage, not a rigged commodity with a de-facto monopoly appointed by State governments.

On Multi-quoting: Just scroll to and click "reply" on the first post you want to quote, then scroll and click "reply" on the next thing you want to quote, then type your response all the way below both quoted posts.

I totally agree with you. The "selfish" part of me likes the risk/reward factor as well but given the option I would without hesitation enact absolute decriminalization if it was up to me.

Fuck yes, I completely and absolutely agree!!! Deregulate then I wont have to keep count on how many seeds I have like I do with my motherf*cking tomatoes, mint, basil, etc etc etc. Its ridiculous

Truth right there! When we have people in our growing community that still are out to rip everyone off and lie everytime they open there mouth on stroke a cumputer we are in trouble. I do see Oregon retaining the most med rights of any state right now. Washington is completely doing away with med in favor of the rec growers. I have to buy cbd clones to send people in cali in need because they will not pass around down there. Greed is a bitch!

I think a lot of cali, growers but not all are the greadest fuckers in the world and only give a shit for there own sealf and could care less about other people and most in that state dos not wount legal pot so the price stays higher for the people that can not grow do to where they live at in that state.ky

I've followed hyroot for a while. And am familiar with someguy. Thanks for the heads up on thorhax. I don't know if outside links are allowed but this is one of my favorite local guys rocking the SIPs

http://freemygreenpdx.com/topic/12464-my-no-till-garden/?fromsearch=1

He's got 20s and maybe 40s sitting in cut of barrels filled with lava rocks and water. He rocks a couple of cootz/lumper cuts and seems to be doing really well.
I would give my rite nut for some fem, seeds of that mans purple and his thi-afgine cross. I did not spell that rite I know but I love the looks of those two plants of his and all is plants for that man is a great grower.Do you know how a man could buy beans of those two plants of his or where I can buy them from any person if so please send me a pm and I will owe you one.thanks for reading ky.

Gonna be crazy hot in the Willamette valley next few days. Managing GH temps will be difficult.
A couple of years ago before I got everything fine tuned(needed a sun screen) had 90 and 100 degree plus days.
The plants would stand tall and reach for the sun like they loved the heat. Then after a few days of this a couple plants started yellowing a bit on the outer leaves. Looked like a deficiency of some sort....turned out to be sunburn. Learned this from an old time grower.

I think our eyes are going to be bugging on how quickly plant "ownership" will occur once it's legal on a federal level. I'm guessing that all the big seed monopolies have a lot of preliminary paperwork in place: plant patent, genetic material. We'll be seeing those little tags declaring the illegality of asexual reproduction, etc. HR - I like the analogy to craft beer but I don't know that it works the same with plant materials. It's easy enough to tweek a recipe, chance it ever so slightly and it's yours. The conglomerate that "owns" the barley, hops, and probably even the yeast strains, aren't going to let you tweek their product. Or at least not without paying the piper!

When I was a punk kid back in Philly in the (gasp!) late 70's we would get cigarettes from these sketchy bodegas, for a little less than the going rate. The packaging was stuff we'd never seen: goofy names, different graphics. Asked the guy behind the counter about it and his explanation was that tobacco companies were marketing brands, trademarking names/logos/packaging; all to have in their pocket when MJ became legal. Which, in hindsight, I almost don't believe, but... I do wish I had saved some of those packs though.

Thanks @Michael Huntherz

and Slow Drawl is right, it's gonna be a scorcher. And being almost solstice, the sun is going to be beating right down on us. It's times like this when I don't wish I had a GH - temperature management is going to be tough. Keep cool, gents.

Honestly I'm pretty sure that seeds are not available. The Thai afghani plant was from a breeding that cootz did for the BOEL. It's called the One And is sisters to the blue orca, the commanders cut, nazis cut. It was done in 1984 so I don't think you'll find that one. I'm not positive about his purple, but i think it might be a similar story. They still float around Oregon and someone might be using them in breeding projects.

I've had some odd anomalies. One of my plants (from seed) the main stem split open, but the plant is still very much alive... another the base of the stem turned dark purple, its gotten worse since the pic was taken (i.e. traveled up the stem further). Two of my plants are very pale green (one has the purple stem), they are two I had put into 15 gallon pots where I 'experimented' with the soil, I guess what I did, didn't work well. Either that or I've over watered them. So far everything is surviving the heat. I did cover the pale green ones with some burlap, just in case they are burning out. All of the ones in sips are doing very well.

Well, that split stem is crazy! You might start an IV drip of fertilizer :p I'm assuming you are going to bandage somehow. I would be careful about not binding too tight, you don't want to hinder transpiration. Purple stem looks like genetics, which one is that? My DK has purple streaking, but not as dark or solid as that. I don't see anything wrong with the third plant; it doesn't look pale to me.

All my plants are looking good (except for my Strawberry hybrid, more on her in a bit), they've been handling the heat ok. I think I've been a little 'cooler' than points north. 99 yesterday, 92 today and that's what they are predicting for tomorrow. The bag seed is the shortest at 3' the other three are over 3'6".

She has buds all over, growing ever so slightly. At first I was just going to pinch them out, but that would be over 20 pinches. And now I'm thinking of just pinching the main growing tips, but I haven't done anything yet. Let her ride! In the back of my head I'm writing her off; I don't feel like anything I can do will flip her back to normal veg.

The cuts I took: the one I most wanted, DK, is the only pair that didn't root. All the CBC's took; a pair from the planted gal and a a pair each for the poor plants still in 1g pots. Those baby's are unhappy, I don't even want to look at that tangle of roots. Sorry little plants...

You've got a lot of plants going on! lol I'm really interested to see how the one that started to flower progresses. I had two that I put out in February that started to flower and then went back into veg in that really strange way that they do. One got bud rot during all the cold rain we had a week or two ago, the other was one of the four that went to my brothers. So did the one with the split -- and I did nothing to repair it. By the time I discovered it, it seemed to have sort of leathered over, like when a tree has a split that heals over. It might be weeks before I see those again.

The purple stem one is an LSD, one of four I have and the only one that turned purple. And the third pic has no issues, its and LSD in a SIP. :)

EDIT: I just realized that in my last post, all three pics are of LSD's from seeds, so since one split and one turned purple, I'm wondering about the strength of the genetics. I didn't do a lot of research on who I got the seeds from, it was sort of an impulse purchase from a local dispensary. They came from Hermetic Genetics, and they come in a kind of cool little pull top can with a resealable lid, and the seeds come still in the bud. So they guarantee 7-10 viable seeds, I got about 20 altogether but many were not mature. But then we got to smoke the bud so we smoked the mother's flowers. Kind of a cool thing, I thought.
