Organic Nutes and "YOUR" medium

Heres an idea of a thread that i think many of us can benefit from.

Id like to try to pool a lot of info from short answers from many fellow growers into one thread. Maybe could become a sticky later if it becomes a valuabe resource.

The Idea: (not involving hydro)
Many people I know find the hardest part of setting up an organic grow is choosing the right medium. Everything is pretty basic but the medium is a bit of a science.

After you guys decide on your organic nutes like Advanced nutrients Iguana Juice or botanicare stuff, What kind of mixes are you guys using? i.e. brands and mix ratios

Ive been trying many types and as we all know there are many brands and mix ratios to go with. All seem to do the job but maybe we together can zero in on the most effective medium when using organic nutrients.

So the idea is to state (in 1 or 2 sentences) what your using and some of the benefits you find in what your using.

Hope this gets interesting. :idea:

Nice topic bud! Ill get on the band wagon in a couple/few months, just now getting ready to start my 1st organic grow.
All others were done with miracle grow haha. Luckily i have a pretty viable source *ie friend* that knows his organics well.
Ill post up the ratios of it all when he calculates it up for me lol, im so new to this.

Heres my list of goodies

-FoxFarm Ocean Forest
-Liquid Fish
-Maxicrop Kelp Extract
-Sul-Po-Mag
-fresh earthworm castings from his worm bin
-Dolomite Lime
-Horticultural perlite

For my greens I would use a 1/5 tsp of seaplex, Thrive alive n seaplex, good pinch of sunleaves mex guano, pinch of calmg(gen org) n alil of the budha grow, I dnt do it to big in quantities, but I mix em all up in a 1 gallon ozarka and did 2 plants then put alil more water, jus plain wAter, I'd let it sit for half a day too, this was for grow, I also have some earth juice up and down, I also was thinkin bout adding some micro nutes n shit like that for a nxt run, earthjuice catylist n I think they have a macro or some shit, Ima try it all, for bloom I'll do lower qualities of my nutrients I listed and put sunleaves mex bat guano, prolly add some koo booster to it have to do some digging, wanna try everything,

Roots Organics pros respectively with typical organic feeding are resin production, overall green growth, taste and aroma of final product and water retention.

Roots Organics cons respectively with typical organic feeding are smaller buds, water retention if you don't add extra perlite to the bottom half of container you'll have droopy parts on your plants because they aren't drying evenly, which equates to slower growth.


Edit: AND nutes, lol. BMO's line minus the foliar, Bio Bizz Top Max, Liquid Kelp, Molasses, guanos during flowering......visualizing my shelf......I think that's it, too stoned right now..hehe :blsmoke:

Also on my 1st Organic run. Used the last of my PromixPottingSoil (about 6gal) Gonna add a bag or 2 of Roots Organic. Along with: Lime,Kelp,Castings,Mycorr-From Seedling/Clone to Early Veg.(LC's Basic Mix + the Mycorr).Seperate mix.Add-GreenSand,High-P&N Guano & Seabird Guano-From Veg. to Flower. looking to use teas as well, also a 1st for me..BsB.

I have always made my own mix for better than 30 years;call it ProMix++++ LOL I have never bought a bagged soil.

I amend my mix with:
Blood meal (sometimes)
Bone meal
Kelp meal
Alfalfa meal
Wheat Bran meal
Dolomite Lime
Epsom Salts
Greensand
Azomite
Granite Dust
Rock Phosphate
Earthworm Castings (my own)
MycoGrow Soluble (cuts are inoculated at transplant)

Maybe some other stuff I'm forgetting.

Soiless mix here: 1gal Peat, 1gal perlite, 1/3gal vermiculite, 1/3 gallon compost, 1/3 gallon of worm casting, A cup of bat guano and myco cultures. Ph is usually a little above 6.
I've just started to use this mix after i start them in a 50/50 peat/vermiculite mix. It has excellent water retention and hasn't compacted too much so its staying nice and airy.

Nuits - Fox Farm complete line up.
Veg - Grow Big and Big Bloom
Last week start Open sesame
Flower - Tiger Bloom and Big Bloom
first 1/3 open sesame
middle 1/3 big bloomz
last 1/3 cha ching

and yes i know this is more of an organic "based" nutrient scheme but it is what it is and it really works well

and yes the solutable 3 pack is Well worth it. I noticed a decent upgrade in yeild, bigger tighter buds, and much more fragrant.

Oh yeah and I was using fox farms ocean forest before I switched to this.

hey kayanow be careful with that fox farm ocean forest soil, when used alone it can burn your plants, it is super rich and needs buffering with some base soil then into flower you transplant into the FF OF

just a heads up i ran into that problem a few years ago

So when you guys grow Organic you use both an organic medium in addition to organic nutrients?

Do any of you use a complete soiless mix with nothing organic in the medium and stick to liquids for all the organic nutrients?

Year old compost made from:

Horse manure
Cow manure
sheep/goat manure
chicken manure
deer carcasses
cow carcasses

Cut with 1/4 perlite before used as medium.

Im being supplied with clones that are about 6 inches tall that im putting straight into flower, is that ok?

absolutly. you can start veggin anything as long as it has an established root system. From what i understand though if you wait till its showing preflowers you can get danker bud and it usually takes about the same amount of time.

anytime bud. just remember different strains react differently to different techniques so if you able a little experimentation will tell you eactly what the plant wants and how it should be done.

Assuming your CLONES came from a mature mother( would be crazy if they didnt), you can flower them as soon as they root. So YES it is OK to flower your rooted 6" tall clones....Peace..BsB.

PS. it wouldnt be a bad idea to give em a few days/ week to get "comfy" in their new home but its not a must. Also depending on STRAIN & SETUP I'd let em get to the10-12' mark just for yield sake...You in a rush KayAnow???

Na im not in a rush at all, just have a pretty confined space. But I was actually planning on letting them get comfy for a week. So ya, im just keepin em small, and my clone source is gonna be supplying in more of a perpetual fashion so im sure you all catch my drift :)

Back to the OP...I"m using the entire roots organics system minus the organism line and for soil just plain roots organics not the 707. Not having the same droopy plant problem as someone said HOWEVER I am using full strength nutes at this point and might go to half strength with the next few nutrient feeds. Overall though the plants seem to love the stuff and more than likely I"ll continue to use that during flower. Still in veg atm.

Edit: I forgot to mention that I Have had a LOT of ph issues due to the soil. I had to add a whole 5 lbs bag of dolomite between the 3 girls (this was right after transplanting so I had to make due with a "ring" of sorts around the main root ball) These pots are 12'' diameter pots that hold up to 2 gallons so I don't think I added too much...but it's quite possible.

Roots Organic seems to vary in consistency from pallet to pallet. I tried to ignore away a magnesium problem just recently but had to break down and add a little dolomite. It didn't need lime for a couple of years. The last batch I bought had a lot of perlite in it so I don't know if that's the way it's going to be or if it was just that batch. The overall growth has always been too good to make the switch so I deal with the slight changes.

I'm in the process of cleaning up and getting ready to flower everything so I can move to another area in March. I'll start a real grow journal then with the setup and everything. My hours are limited to 3-4 hours for maintenance over there right now but I'll snap some shots tomorrow morning of different sizes and times from clone to flower.:joint:
