Other uses for string when growing?

so i know what low stress training is, which is what im doing to one of my babies, but one of my plants is short and really bushy, ive seen it where they get string and screw it to the planter so the branches lay more horizontal and thats it. not nesesarilly curving it but just keeping them spread out. any idea what the advantage of that is.?

I would have to say more budding space since they would be pointing stright up insted of on the sides, and it could also increase your yeild if used right
