Outdoor Spring Harvest!

Hello All!

I am a norcal grower, I am in search of some people who have attempted to bud plants in the Spring. I had mine indoors under 12/12 600w for 3 weeks. Then on may 12th they went outdoors. So far so good! Buds are bigger than the indoor crop, and they look completely normal.

2 strains are involved; xj-13, and Jedi Kush. The Kush is about ready; unupported branches are falling off, one more week of flush and it will be a complete success! The xj needs another 3 weeks or so... Which is where my primarily concern is. June 21st is longest day of year and that is when I am going to have plants flowering?!

This has been an experiment that has turned into a nice crop, but every day there is more and more sunlight. I am worried that I am already at the peak of max sun, and that some funky shit is gonna happen to me like foxtailing or seedbud.

Have a nice day!

Man, you need to get a growing guide and I don't mean a "grow guru" that you visit for advice. The way you're going at it I wouldn't expect any miracles. You started the plants inside and vegged them inside, turned the lights to 12 / 12 3 weeks ago? The vegging stage was fine but you needed to put them out after 1 week or so or put them out after they were growing good and had established.

Your mehtod leaves something to be desired. My son bought a clone from a local dispensary a couple years ago. I gave him a 8'x8' tent and a 600w hps/mh light system and some Nirvana Ice fem seeds. I told him to quit trying to force his store-bought clone and let it finish because the dispensary sold him one that was too far along to re-veg it. It was already in bloom when it was cloned. Being the genius he was he ignored me and tried to force his clone to stop blooming and re-veg so he could have a huge cannabis tree. Needless to say, the clone did get a little taller after a few weeks of long light period, the Ice seeds sprouted and grew but not too tall and flowered. All in all, he had tho toss out about half of the finished clone (rot) and only got about 1 oz total off 5 12 inch Ice fems.

Whats up man I'm also in Nor Cal and I'm pretty familiar with Spring harvests. If you started them indoors on 12/12 thats fine, but you have to keep them on 12/12 after you transfer them outside. Do this by either covering them with a light-tight cover or putting them in a light-tight enclosure every night and bring them out every morning. Otherwise they will be confused at the longer light hours outside and either attempt to switch back into veg mode or just completely stall out. Depending on how sensitive your strains are to changes in photoperiod, they just might finish, but the quality will almost certainly be compromised. I can guarantee a properly timed light-dep (7:30am out, 7:30pm in) will yield much better results.

Here are some pics of my light dep from two years ago. I had some GDP, Blue Dream and Afwreck in a PVC frame blackout box I made. I opened the top every morning and closed it every night for two months. Pulled almost 2.5 lbs of fresh dry bud on this exact day two years ago (June 12, 2010). Also there are a few pics of four plants (Skywalker OG, Sour D, Querkle, Jillybean x Devil Berry) that I'm light depping this year. They are in 5-7 gal buckets and I carry them in and out of a light-tight vented enclosure every morning and evening. They won't be done until July 14-16 or so but still thats pretty early for some fresh smoke :)

I have light-depped before. And concluded it was a little too much work for me. I expect the standard response to be of caution. But two-harvest crops are common in nature. The plants only get about 9 hours of direct sunlight, I don't know if that is working in my favor. Now my xj13's are 4ft tall from top of container, and have nice, frosty buds. The jedi kush has wider, riper nugs.

I will always second guess myself for being too lazy to do light dep. But knowledge is more valuable than bud. Hopefully. I don't like putting bud pics up but I am considering putting some pics up.

wut if i cover 730pm then uncovered at 830am does it have to be 12/12?
Like I said, it depends on the strain, as each strain reacts/responds differently to changes in photoperiod...but I would personally not risk it. Theres a reason people grow indoor 12/12 and not 13/11!

Cool yeah it depends a lot on strain and how much direct sunlight. Glad to hear they're producing big nugs and pushing out lots of THC :) BTW, I really like the fact that I have to be somewhere every morning and every evening. It gives my day structure and keeps me out of trouble ;)
