The Science of ONA

The ONA odor neutralizing products consist of complex formulations representing a variety of chemical compounds offering different functionalities, both structural and chemical. The technology behind ONA was initiated over 25 years ago. The scientist who invented ONA became fascinated when he observed that terpenes, when diffused into the environment, reduced odors and unwanted emissions. Inspired by this finding, further evidence showed that the odors were not just masked but permanently removed. The result was a set of specialized formulations that neutralize a wide spectrum of organic and inorganic odor problems — effectively, efficiently and permanently. ONA formulations have been scientifically engineered to be environmentally safe. ONA is manufactured under strict quality controls to ensure a safe and non-toxic product. The components used to make ONA are generally recognized as safe and have been commonly used in the food and cosmetics industries with a long history of safety.

TERPENES
Terpenes are widespread in nature, mainly in plants as constituents of essential oils. Many terpenes are hydrocarbons, but oxygen-containing compounds such as alcohols, aldehydes or ketones (terpenoids) are also found. Their building block is the hydrocarbon isoprene, CH2=C(CH3)-CH=CH21. .

. .

TERPENE CHARACTERISTICS
  • Terpenes have anti-bacterial, antifungal and antiseptic properties.
  • Terpenes have oxygenating properties (increases oxygen level).
  • When diffused into the environment, terpenes have been found to reduce airborne chemicals and bacteria.
  • Terpene characteristics appear to either destroy the odor molecule or convert it to a more acceptable level.
.

ONA – THE MECHANISMS OF ACTION
There are three mechanisms of action that can occur, based on the chemical and physical natures of each terpene and active ingredient versus the organic and inorganic volatile compounds.

Adsorption — All VOCs and odorous compounds have a solubility factor in ONA active ingredients. This solubility will allow the VOC compound to solubilize itself in the presence of ONA, relative to the chemistry of the emission, temperature, pH, and pressure of the environment.

Adsorb: To collect and hold (gas or vapor) in the surface of a solid.

Absorption — The active molecules in ONA will attract or come into contact with low molecular weight or volatile compounds (VOC’s). These VOC’s will enter and bond with the ONA active ingredients to eliminate odors.

Absorb: To retain wholly, without reflection or transmission, what is taken in.

Chemical Reaction (The Pairs Theory2) — This involves the permanent bonding of the odorous molecule (VOC) and the ONA active ingredients reactive sites. This mechanism transforms the pollutant in its basic properties. As a result, odor disappears.

.

The affinity of the different odorous compounds (VOCs) with ONA is directly relative to their chemical composition and physical state. For example, a hydrogen sulfite can have a great affinity for certain sites of the ONA active ingredient. It can either bond electrostatically, or react in comparison to its relative solubility. This means different components will be neutralized by one mechanism compared to the other two, or a blend of each of the three. The bottom line is ONA is not a masking agent but offers a safe, effective way to permanently eliminate odors and emissions.

1 Isoprene Rule, Wallach 1887
2 The Pairs Theory is based on the work of Zwaardermaker, an early 20th century Dutch scientist. The Zwaardermaker Pairs Theory concludes that two or more odors can cancel each other out when they combine in a natural bond like attraction.

Ona gel is an odorant as in it puts out enough stink of it's own to cover the smell of the pot.

Love Trainspotting. Makes me want to shoot up some smack tho. :)

Anything that's 1000X better than the best orgasm I've ever had had got to be worth trying.

:peace:

I think it might be okay if Ona is outside the room and away from the plants.. I also have charcoal filters.

Ona gel is not a safe chemical. All my pals who used it said it makes you cough. If smelling it makes you cough imagine what it does if it is close to your buds.
Peace

MMJ Dreaming 99, if you are worried about the charcoal not eliminating everything and you happen to have a central air system in the house you might want to try using an air knight air purifier to supplement the slack . I installed one in a house of 6 cats , the day I installed it you were able to smell the boxes the minute you entered the home , went there a month later for another issue and you couldn't even get a hint of the smell. They are low voltage UV/O3 bulbs 24v and go in your duct system. You do wire it to trigger your blower motor for continuous on in order to be effective . I haven't seen it in action against ripening bud smell so I can't give you a full result report on that .

I love this kind of logic. Along the same lines, co2 will kill me if its concentrated so I probably shouldnt expise my plants to any either, imagine what it could do to them if it can kill me!

Ona gel is not even a chemical, it's a non toxic, all natural plant extracts and as for your pals coughing, that's their poor growing skills so give them some constructive criticism ;-)

Almost everything is a chemical, we are too because we are Carbon based lifeforms, I was alluding to the fact that Ona is 'non-toxic' so if you want an argument go and speak to UnkleBuck, being a dick will not make yours bigger.

and using that line over and over will not make you right. I just pointed out how your post was wrong. that is all.

At just a few Ppm(as in single digit)ozone will start to damage your chromosomes and seriously fuck your shit up. It breaks down and destroys just about everything via oxidization. You don't want to be anywhere near that shit without a ozone LEL alarm clipped onto you. Why some people generate the stuff in their own homes is beyond me. Maybe they just don't care, or know, or both. Sure, some process plants utilize it to neutralize certain compounds, but they have to run it through a catalyst after if there's any amount generated higher than the lower exposure limit, which is pretty much anything above ambient/background. What's next? Gamma ray bedside heater?
