I dont know, sounds hammered to me,you can use clean masons sand,NOT BEACH SAND,you can also get sheet stryafoam at a building supply, crumble it up & use it as a substitute but i'd stay away from peanut shells.

No it dosent, where did you come up with that info ?

Remember, millions of people every day drink from styrofoam cups.
I came up with that info on here when i left a thread asking if i could use styro foam pieces instead of perlite. and thats what i was told.

I think somebody was pullin your leg, theres nothing wrong with styrafoam, granted its not as good as perlite due to a weaker density & poor pouroisity but its not poisonous.

With the trend to "go green" the construction industry hes developed green roofing systems for commercial buildings, ive see these systems in person, the base layer is made of 100% styrafoam & all kinds of shit grows on top of it,grass, plants, small trees ect.

I wouldnt hesitate to use it if need be.

Just crush them up till you get a big pile i guess,or you could just buy a sheet of styrafoam from Home Depot for like $5 & have piles of the shit.

styrofoam has a half life of something in the hundreds of years meaning it doesn't break down naturally, the only way to release the chemicals in stryofoam is to burn it. so in water and soil it is safe.

So far no problems anybody, my little guys are looving the new higher drainage environment. Haha i was try to figure out what was in my soil, and the guy i buy it from says it is beet, i thought that was just the word for soil, but o no, theres no p in arabic so p becomes b, i was like ooooooo, beeet. ok, Interesting fact the word for falafel is related to the word for silt.
