My perlite turns reddish orange after i water the first time. Is this due to high iron in the water? Could it be harmful? Plants look fine but makes me wonder. I'm using tap water from a city water supply and i added 1Tlsp of H2O2 per gallon. No nutes.
thanks in advance

Cant remember the brand name, but i made sure it didnt have any nutes added. I bought it at a greenhouse, they said it was the mix that they use and assured me it did not contain any nutes. I have some perlite i bought a while back and it responds the same way when i put water on it, but that perlite is MG brand and it does have nutes added. I didnt use the nute containing perlite in my soil.

That must mean that its something in the water, but the water doesnt change the color of the container its in, no rust stains or sediment or anything. Should i use distilled water or is the discoloring of the perlite ok?
Thanks

Yeah, I've had my perlite turn orange, green, and blue. I assumed the orange was from molasses, the green and blue is a mystery to me.... Never had any probs with them though.
