Im about to start a new grow and my Fox Farm Ocean Soil just came in the mail but i read somewhere on RIT that i should add some perlite to the mix at around 25%. Do i mix that into the soil or do i add it on the top or the bottom of the pot? Thanks in advance +rep

Perlite just keeps new growers from overwatering so easily. I use Fox Farm soils with nothing but some humus and guanos added and it works great. Ditch the perlite and you won't have to water every other day.

^I don't advise ditching the perlite, unless you intend to go with small pots, or have temps consistently over 80*. 25% maybe be a bit excessive, but 10%+ is a really good idea, especially until a new guy get's his watering routine fine-tuned. IMO, it's not such a big deal to water every 2 days, rather than every 4. It'll also help keep the PH in check.

Mix it in. Ocean Forest already has perlite in it but adding some more will only help. 1/3 to 1/4 of your mix should be perlite and perlite helps to aerate your soil so roots can breathe.
