I'm a faithful topper. But two of mine split in the recent hurricane where I topped them. The BIL never tops his. He didn't lose any to the storm.

Topping does increase yield. but you might want to think about some sort of wrap for the main split if you have high winds.

Some outdoor OGK .... poor plant suffered weeks of no sun, clouds, misty nights, here she is about 3+ weeks into flower.. Looks like some baby frost coming on...

I top like a motherfucker...cage and net to help with support but i dont get bad winds where my plants are
