Optimum pH varies with the substrate. Normal soil should be at about 6.5. Yes, 5.3 in typical soil is plenty low enough to cause major problems. You can fix acidic soil with any of a number of types of garden lime, and it will have a more lasting effect than most alkaline liquids.

Just make a batch of water that is pH corrected to 6.5 and then flush them with that, solves your pH problem

2nd that, I scored a bag of dolomite lime from Home Depot for a few bucks, enough to last a loooong time. Flush it and buffer it ASAP.

The dolomite lime will help to raise your PH and give you some calcium and magnesium... Someone recently suggested fast acting lime for faster response. I hope they bounce back nicely for you.

I think you're right on wmstanton. I do believe that baking soda will also help to raise PH in your solution. How much to administer I do not know.
