PH Water EVERY day

.....refreshing to see good advice.

I water straight from the hose with no issues ....soil buffers ph all by itself...and ph swing in soil isn't a bad thing IMO ....I used to ph in soil when I was younger ...more harm than good wasting money and time.

I do fill my tanks to let the chlorine evaporate for a few days ....but if I'm lazy and forget ...straight out the hose with no issue......great advice
The root pH can be up to 3 points lower than surrounding soil.

Pauliewogs........you haven't mentioned what it is you are growing in.

It would help others help you otherwise you're going to get a few different answers.
Oh shit. My fault. Im growing in straight coco right now. I plan on cutting the coco with 20-30% perlite next grow. I tried soil but I like having as much control over my grow as possible so we didnt mesh :p

Ph every thing you put in every time.

Keep your meter clean and calibrated.

What's your reason for wanting to add perlite?

It doesnt dry as quickly as I would like. Ive read that perlite is great for increasing drainage and adding air pockets which I guess roots love. I figure that it cant hurt to experiment with the medium to find that sweet spot that works for me. Im posting a new thread tonight with pictures to let others take a look at my first grow. Its nothing special and, quite frankly, may be a bit subpar but I want others to see what I see and offer advice from there. Thank you again for all your help. Im going to check if there is a friend or follow button after writing this to add you if possible. Please stop by my new thread once its up and offer any insight!!! Happy growing!

I always have to add 20-25% large perlite to my ocean forest for drainage. Helps clear excess salts too.

Oh thank god. Im such a stickler when it comes to excess salts. Seriously. I flush whenever the ec in the runoff gets over a 2. I flush her with plain PHd water and then give a nice feeding afterwards. Yay for coco being near impossible to overwater! Haha

Hopefully the goal is to only give as much nutrients as they need. I rarely need to leach my pots. Running too much clear water through is not good.

I look at it like feeding the soil what it may be missing and no more. And I do it with lighter doses every watering.

I don't look at it like feeding the plant. The soil provides for the plant.

The decent runoff and the perlite to help with drainage with the right amount of nutes is key in my system. And I just lower the concentration of nutes if I see the plant has had enough or a bit too much.

At least I try to. I grow a lot of different plants from seed all the time. I don't know what some phenos and strains will need.

Honestly, i thought I had a magnesium deficiency (turned out to be iron) so i added a tsp of epsum salt to my nute solution which shot the ec past 9k after a few days. Thats the only time Ive done a true flush with plain PHd water.

So if I have access to foxfarm soil is it a good soil to use for my first grow? Also I'm using a 300watt viparspectrem for lights in a 3×3 6' room for one plant. And sorry for jumping in I'm a newbie and you seem to know your stuff!! Any advice is appreciated.

9k from epsom salt alone? Wow! In my experience it takes a tremendous amount of it to change the EC. How much did you add?

It's a good soil as far as buffering Ph and it's exactly what I use myself.....I do add lime to my fresh ffof and a bit of perlite as well ...not necessary ...however it seems ever since FF opened up another facility I started getting rocks and running into MAG Def ....as well as other growers in my area ...I'm actually beginning to recycle my ffof and I'm even trying out the RO 707 mix this year as well .......trying to get away from buying fresh ffof each year ......ANYWAYS....for a small grow and if you have access ...my answer would be go ahead ....ffof is a hot mix, so don't put seedlings into it ...I suggest some FF light warrior to start little ones ...and then into FFOF.....I've had great results with there soil and nutes in the past as well as present .......just a lil upset with the shit I've been finding in the soil lately..Big rocks, sticks, a mans penis ....k not the penis but the other stuff for sure ...hope that helps GL .

NOTE- FFOF has enough food for about a month ...so just water is all for a month .

Light warrior is good for around three weeks or a bit longer Imo...then the plant can be transplanted into the ocean forest ....that's what has worked for me ....GL

I only added a tsp to a gallon of solution but I think i may have neglected to allow adequate runoff for a day or two so it just kept piling on. Live and learn, eh?

I don't think OF is hot. I do add 20-25% perlite or so to feel depending on the season for my ventilated room. I only have problems if the drainage is not good. Of course the problems in drainage cause buildup and burn so same effect.

Here are 2 completely unknown to me until 2 days ago seedlings from some new seeds I was asked to grow for a friend who is moving. They were bred in Europe for the bulk seed market.

They are in ocean forest and large perlite and the cup was watered in to runoff before planting the taprooted seeds.

Honestly I haven't tried starting my seeds in FFOF since I've been adding extra perlite.....I had some pretty bad babies burn in the past using FFOF from the start....so I just said fuck it and go light warrior for a few weeks and then into the FFOF...it works well and I don't have any issues.....plus, a bag of light warrior is cheap and will start a shit load of solo cup seedlings for me ....not saying your wrong at all ....that's just my experience ...so it's just my method nowadays ....I'm more pissed about the quality of the FFOF soil the last 2 years TBH ...it's not cheap when running large smarts in green houses.....I don't mind paying for quality soil ....but I literally have a bag of rocks and sticks I've pulled out of the soil this year ....Big rocks ......I'm actually very pleased with my first attempt at recycling .....and pleased with the 707 mix as well ....very pleased actually ....and I've always loved the FFOF ....but lately I'm a lil dissatisfied .....that's just my opinion .....and like butt holes ...we all got one ......happy growing
