PH

Can someone talk about optimal PH range for Aero? I see lots of varying information, and the more I think about it the more questions I'm left with. Is this something dependent on the type of fertilizers/nutrients being used, why is there a difference between soil, hydro, and aero, etc... I've been hovering between 5.8-6.0 for a week or two and the plants seem happy for the most part, i do see some signs of stress, yellowing of the veins, burning of a couple tips, etc.

I am on my first grow and I am using a 4-pot aeroponic spray system. I have been keeping my pH in the same range as you (5.8-6.0). I am on month 2 of the grow and week 3 since female flowers appeared. I am using General Hydroponics Flora 3 Series and I found that it brings the pH of my res water from roughly 7.0 down to 5.2. I have to use pH UP to bring it back into my desired levels. The pH stabilizers in the Flora 3 Series hold my pH at what I set it at during res changes all the way until the end of the week. It never fluctuates more than 0.5-1.0 a week. I even top off with non-pH balanced RO water and still have not had any issues. For what its worth, I think if your plants dig it, keep it up......right up.

Any particular reason why 5.5 is ideal? Just out of curiosity.
PH in hydro is recommended based on how nutrients are better available in water as the medium rather than soil. Different mediums affect PH differently.

..as far as 5.5 being ideal - that is just something I aim for in trying to be consistent and it has not failed me yet. Although in flower, when they drink a lot of water, my PH often drops to around 5.2 - 5.1 and if I use 5.5 as the guideline so I start aiming for 6.0 and it drops to 5.5 almost daily and I add RO water at 7.5 to bring it back up a bit.

I find find questions like this very hard to answer in a nice or non-condescending way. The reason being is because I feel that ph is one of those things that should be considered essential reading by any new grower, right up there with nutrients or TDS (for whatever medium you use), etc. If you're still unsure of the answer, do some cross-reference work. And if all else fails, then try a forum. It seems to me that we'd have a lot less of them questions being asked over and over (and answered incorrectly quite often) resulting in a lot less clutter...

-Cheers
