Pheno hunting bag seeds.

A buddy of mine came to me with 2 seeds from some "sour". I never tried the bud, but trust his opinion and have a fun time pheno hunting. So...

From the 2 seeds I got 1 boy and 1 girl, the male was way more interesting to my nose than the female.

The female was short with small bud sites close to the main stem.

The male was more branchy and lanky, with way more space between the internodes.

I decided that the male was worth testing out, collected his pollen and made some f2's of the bag "sour".

Out of the original test pack of 10 seeds, I ended up with 7 seedlings with one of them being a true trifoliate.

After sexing, I found out the trifoliate was a male as well as 2 others (#'s 4,5,6).
Since #4 was the mutation, I was going to keep him as a male, but it was a he-she. Had to go.

Now I am left with 4 females to pick my winner from, I am liking #7's resin/terp profile the most, even tho one of the others smell like straight up garlic.

Garlic bud is pretty well loved by a lot of folks. Can't say I've ever had it or seen it. Maybe those terpenes will bring something special. I like what you're doing here.

Thank bro, I really appreciate it. Sometimes I wonder if anyone is even on the same page as I am.

The good news is I have rooted clones of each one so if there is anything special I already have it copied. Finger crossed they stay females.
Individual pics tonight at lights on.

From what I can see at this point, it looks like 2 of the girls most likely wont make the cut. One of them looks way too much like the mother just with a little more smell to her. The other one just looks like it will be all air and hairs.

The other 2 both seem to have a better bud structure, with one my favorite being a little less hairy and a little more frosty with "resin taco'ing" bud leaves.

After thinking about it a little today, I believe its reasonable to say that the bag seeds were not the results of something s1'ing. It also could not be an accidental cross of two females, where one hermed and hit the other.

That leaves me with it either being the result of rouge pollen(most likely outdoor), or an intended cross. Since I never saw the size of the bud the the 2 seeds in it, I must leave it at that. Either way I have something brand new.

It seems as if the males traits are more dominant in the f2 offspring. Out of 4 females only 1 resembles the mother (bud structure, plant structure, lack of resin) but is almost a carbon copy of her, just a little leggier and slightly more smelly.
The other 3 all have a similar structure to what their father had. They all got some smell form the male, because the mom was very light sour smelling.

Seems like the f2 generation has opened up a bunch of variations, if the rest of these stay girls I may just go digging again.

After reviewing some of the notes I made during the veg cycle, I am remembering some of the details.
The seeds were sowed on 12/17
1/19-there is a note saying #5=dank, #4=sour, #7=slightly sour, #3 oily feeling stems (turtle wax).

2/26-#1,5,6,7, showed sex first.

Today the 4 ladies got a full strength feeding of the beastie formula.

Today I would say #3 smells gamy like deer meat, kinda beefy but a little more earthy. Umami.

Heres a few more shots of the front runner.
Nice full body shot.
004 (2).JPG You can see the "taco'ing" bud leaves at the bottom of this one. None of the others have this feature.

Just looking at the plants trying to "guess" what the parental stock could be, I noticed that they all have really long leaf stems. Like really long, the longest I have seen.
Also it looks like all the ones with the red leaf stems are more father dominant, since the only one with green ones is the copy of the mom(recessive?)
Its looking like the 2 keeper plants would end up looking way different, one should have a hybrid look and the other should look like some haze.

#1 is just way too hairy and fluffy, no mass at all. Hopefully its a haze and will just take longer to fill out, but I doubt it.
021.JPG #2 Looks just like the mother, which was low smell. Identical copy of the mom.
023.JPG #3 Is the second best so far, it looks more sativa leaning still, but at least looks like it will make actual buds. The frost is about average, smell is onion/garlic. Very earthy, like seasonings or herbs.

027.JPG #7 Is my early pick, the frost on it makes it worth a run, but it also has a nice swollen bract kinda look. The smell is still garlic seasoning, but with a twist of sour dankness.

Wow bravo.... Went from looking like it was gonna yield like Gsc, to looking like a great yield! Supper job.
There is just something about the way this one "towers", I am not expecting much since it was bagseed that I didnt even get to try. But I have grown a few bagseeds that I wish I kept cuts of and a lot of clone onlys come from accidental crosses.
