My guess is that someone has been beating off over ur tank man :-) ... or it could be some sort of glue that was used to join pipes etc when the watering system or draining system was put togeather?

could be protien buildup but thats pretty rare, what nutrients and additives do you use? What type of hydro system is it?

i use general hydro flora series 1-2-3 shit. I also use h202 and some ph down and thats it about it. Its funny that you say that cuz when i took some out today there was a hair tht this slime surrounded, could it be the hair is breaking down and it is mainly protein. Also the water temp gets no higher then 75 degrees and the room is around 82-86 F. Its ebb and flow that i built

mature guys, lol. It's hard to say exactly what the buildup is... with the H202 it's unlikely it's bacterial, if it's floating just get a little fishnet scoop from the pet store and get it out of there, if it's getting into the motor then get a filter bag.

Never seen it before. Maybe your due for a good flush and then once you have finished this grow and good bleach scrub.

You know, Ive been fighting this same SHit in my res for the last 2 months. Slowed it down by completely blocking light out, not using hardly any ph up or down, i read that could be the cause, and keeping res temp at about 68,69F. The slime stunted root growth a little, but I cleaned the res out with bleach when i did a nute change, and finally was able to get a handle on it. Basicly, i think it might be something with the gh nutes cause ive used others, and never had this prob. my thoughts....

Looks like algae to me,same looking as you get in a fish tank.
I wouldn't know though as i only use soil so far.:blsmoke:

Hey 4twinty, Ill tell you how i solved it. I went out and bought a cooler to use as a resovoir and fixed it up.. The reason i did this, was because ive found out that stuff is some kind of algae, and if you block the light itll go away. I also used florashield in my resovoir per gh instructions, and my plants have really gotten better looking. So even though my res looked light tight from the outside, some light was getting in there somewhere, so now, with the cooler, im 100% sure there is absolutely no light. Anyhow, maybe theres some light gettin in somewhere. My thoughts... hope it helps..

Its a fungus that can form in these type of setups.Make sure you use liquid nutes and not powders as they tend to build up and not disolve and can lead to this. You dont want your actual res temp above 65 degrees F as this becomes a great place for fungus to feed.Things to make sure is to bleach wash the setup before using it each time meaning the res, hydroton, and net baskets.Makes sure you have a large enough air pump as you want a rapid boil to the water or it gets murkey.Dont over h202 to much as it can be rough on roots if over done. Also make sure you do a res change in these4 small units at least once a week...Sincerely FilthyFletch

whats the color of your roots? if its brown... thats dead root coming off.. if your roots are healthy and white... then it might be form of fungus... make sure NO light gets in your res...

I say dead root because i have the SAME shit...all over my pump filter and my airstones... this was when i switch from soil to hydro same plant.. and some roots died off...

I have roughly the same buildup in my hydrop setup. I was told it was ok as long as the color doesnt get any darker. (blackish color) i was told it was roots that are above the water line and away from the base of the plant, they die off, turn to a jelly like slime, and float around the res
