Pin head sized bugs....... Need Help please

Okay so I see these little white bugs in my soil, they are super small, I would say like pin needle small.

Ive searched this forum and it doesnt seem that they are spider mites because i dont see them on my leaves or even under them. They just seem to be crawling around on top of my soil. Its not a whole lot of them but Im just curious what they are and how to get rid of them. I also have some gnats flying around.

HOw to get rid of them is my question. Ive read to put down sand, but what type of sand? And do I remove the sand after awhile?

Please help this is my first grow. The plant is a clone and IVe had it for about 2 months now. I just pulled some clones off her last night when I saw the bugs.

Its probably either Gnat larvae or Thripes. Neem oil, sand, perlite all of these things will work against both. Just spray your soil top with it. Then do it again 4-7 days later. The sand and perlite u just put on top of the soil to keep it from remaining soggy. What it does is prevents the larvae to germinate and grow. they need soggy/moist soil to get a hold and thrive.

Sounds like young Thrips. I just got done killing off the little bastards in my soil also.
I killed them off with a non-poison insecticide called "goGnats" made by HydroOrganics. It took a few applications, but they finally have completely disappeared. Check with your local Hydro store, they should carry it or something equivalent. Or I know you can get it from www.Atlantishydroponics.com.

Good luck --- but make sure to kill 'em off before they grow/multiply/etc.!!

just plain old sandbox sand.. about 1/2"-1" covering the soil will prevent them from being able to dig a hole into the soil.. i had this issue once with several household plants.. put sandbox/play sand covering the soil.. had to kill a few that were flying around the house but never had an issue with em being in the soil after coating the soil with sand..
i have tried several other things to get rid of em and nothing seems to work. no pest strips don't even seem to phase them..
