Plant is short-roots are huge???

so, my plant is only about 8 inces tall after like 3 1/2 weeks.
but the roots(clear container)go into the soil about 18 inches down.

plant looks healthy and bushy, but whats up with the height?
I am using 2 of those 100W swirly flourescent bulbs about 4" from the top of the plant..

Need to see some pics.

From seed that doesnt seems too terribly bad if lights are close and nodes are tight

are they 100w bulbs or 100w equiv

Sounds like 100w equiv get more light and don't let light get to your roots. Black that shit out!

dont use black, black absorbs light and makes heat; not good for root systems. paint them green or pretty much any color but black

this is not a problem at all. just think if it would be better to have a strechy plant with a weak root system. short plants with tightly spaced nodes are ideal. no wasted space

tell me what i'm doing wrong

first off aluminum foil is not a good reflector. mylar substitutes like emergency blankets would work better. hell even white would work better

what are you using for light? other than a little stretching(from base to leafs) that plant doesnt look too bad

What do you mean by "stretching?"
I thought the plant was short.

Also, i quickly threw the foil away and made a "hood" using blank white paper.
thats all i have right now thats white.
so,

i found it it's 2 -25w bulbs i'm using.
still should be good for the 1 plant right?
The thing is seriously rootbound.
I also wrapped the clear pot with a few layers of paper towels to keep any light out....

it's also in a 6 quart container.
How big can i expect it to get?????

the stem is stretched, probably because your cfls are too far away. those low wat cfls can be an inch or two from the plant without causing much heat at all.

Yeah the plant is stretched. All of your growth is at the top. Looks ok though.

Your CFLs need to be 6500K light spectrum for vegetative growth. The light only needs to be about 1 inch or so from your plants for tighter node spacing. 26 watt daylight bulbs will work

I had a clone that rooted after a few days, within two weeks the plant was only about 6'' tall and had about 30 bleach white roots coming out of the bottom of a 4'' rockwool cube. Within a couple days that thing took off and grew like nobodys business. good luck

If all you can afford now is CFL's get as many as you can and put them about 1" from the plant. They can be all around the plant.

All the growth is at the top because the lights are insufficient and too far away, causing stretching.

If you can possibly afford it, get a 250 or 400w HPS light, you would have much better yield and product.

Nothing like this can be predicted, but if you get some more cfl's and grow it out it would probably get 12-24" tall depending on genetics and when you flower.
