I have grown before but i am now going to grow a few plants. i have a 400w digital ballast and a grow tent (4ft by 4ft by 6'8ft)
i was planning on growing 6 plants in 5 gallon buckets. i also have all the sufficient fans and environment controllers pumps etc

my question is how could i grow the most marijuana with this set up

should i grow light overhead or light in the center of a circle of plants?
harvest larger plants or a greater number of smaller plants smaller plants?
any recomended nutrient brands?

any help or set ups as to how to grow to maximum efficiency would be great. any ideas how much i can expect to grow?

Well vertical is the most efficient way to grow, there is no wasted light
You are growing in soil I presume? Or DWC?

i have grown in a soiless medium before an dirt but they were single plant grows. i have pumps if needed. im planning to go with whatever is a good balance of easy to not screw up and high yeilds.

For a 4x4 area, I'd seriously consider 600w or 1000w. Will you be incorporating extra C02 because that will definitely increase yield considerably. Air cooling or water cooling? Anything to get that light source as close as possible. Proper ventilation, air movement, temperature and humidity...at all times. Even if you're going to do stadium style or light in the center, in a 4x4 area, a 400w is decent at best in comparison to 600w cooled or 1000w cooled.

If you're set on the 400w, I'd probably suggest going dwc for 6 plants (good luck with the roots and I mean that sincerely) simply because I think it's one of the more aggressive methods of feeding the plant and you don't have to put as much nutrients compared to other means. Containing the roots is the biggest pain in the butt though. You definitely want to veg the hell out of them before 12/12. Check out the pics of what I used to do with dwc. Just make sure you have an adequate amount of air through airstones. I imagine you could put two of these side by side, veg for a month or more, and get will over half a pound.

I dunno, I guess there are just so many ways huh. Good luck :leaf:

i already purchased a 400 w of ebay for a last minute ridiculous low price so i will be using that. i plan on putting 4 2000 lumen cfl bulbs at low level to aid in the lower plants shadowed areas. i have a ph tester and a tds ez meter. i will have sufficient ventilation to maintain optimum tempuretures and a fan to oscilate over the crop. i also have a cool mist humidifyer that maintains set levels. i have two air pumps and airstones. as for co2 i am not sure yet what i will be using. i am going to save my pennies along with my partner to try and get a generator off of ebay for cheap. i was thinking at least of building four of those yeast bottle contraptions. i am not sure how much they put out though? i am also looking into getting a co2 tank but i have not looked into the cost of it and some sort of timed valve.
thank you very much for your help. any sugestions as to strains to grow, co2 recomendations would be great

i just checked out your pictures and noticed six plants per tub. for the greatest yeilds and with my 400w light should i stick with six plants 3 per tub or do more or less for the best outcome?

Of course, it's completely up to you as far as how you want to set things up but you should consider light penetration with a 400w. Keeping that in mind, you'll probably want to grow indica dominant strains so that they don't get too tall. In the pictures I posted, those were White Russians at around 6 weeks from seed just to give you an idea of an indica dominant in that kind of setup. I think 6 will be a safe bet but I'm sure it's arguable. Check out this video with Mr. Green as a perfect example as to what you can do with a 400w (and c02 for that matter which is highly recommended)... fast forward to around 7 minutes or hell watch the whole series if you haven't already
