If I dig a hole 3x3x5 and fill it with my amended soil. When the roots inevitably outgrow the hole will the soil still feed the plants?

Indoor is more of my thing but I don't think your hole needs to be five feet deep. Mad overkill, imo.
45 cubic feet is a lot of soil.

yeah I misread that, 5 feet deep seems kinda overkill. Considering pros can get a monster plant out of a 200 gallon smart pot. I think they are only 18-24 inches deep.
Good luck on your grow. Post pics of that pit, if you go the mega hole method. I think that's what these guys did (link above).
