Plants finishing too soon????

So, plants are about 40 days in. Great setup, fox farm ocean forest, 2k hps in a 4x8 tent, organic tea using budswel, kelp, molasses. I have many grows under my belt with different strains. Only 1 previous with this particular strain. I have produced over 2lbs per 1k watt light before. Needless to say, i know what i'm doing. Everything seemed great 3 days ago. I noticed a couple of spider mites in my veg room, so i used some malathion on my flowering room just as a precaution. I've never used it before in flowering. This strain is called the sugar. It was bred by a friend of mine. It is not a huge producer, but not terrible either. Its genetis are probably NL x White Widow x AK47. Anyway, 3 days after spraying them the hairs (which were all white before) all of a sudden turned 50% red. This strain is know to do this at about 60 days in hydro or aero. This is my first soil grow in a while ( i have been a aero guy for about 3 years). This strain doesn't look like its going to finish the POW its done. In my experience soil is usually about a week to 2 longer than aero. What could have caused this?? The malathion? Its not supposed to have any effect on plants. I would be stoked if they were fully grown, but the are about half the size they should be. Any ideas why they look done so early? Will the keep swelling up in the next couple of weeks?
