Plants stunted?

I have a seedling still in its first week from seed. Feminised Northern Lights. it doesn't look like it is growing at all anymore and has no new root growth. It is still green. It was started in a root riot sponge cube with no nutes, just dampened with water. As soon as it sprouted as tem I placed it in a small pot with a 50/50 mix of perlite and peat moss and dampened with water.

It is under 2 T5s 24/7 on. It has a diy heat mat that is insulated so as to not get the tray to hot. The temp is about 80*F.

I am am not sure if this is normal or not.

any help would be great. Thank you in advance.

Give it another week, It is going to put all of its energy into the roots, then the veg growth will happen. Let it go, GET RID OF THE HEAT MAT, THE ROOTS SHOULD BE KEPT COOL!!!!

clones root much faster with a heat mat, but once roots are formed, then the mat goes. Fungal infections are very common if the root zone is kept too warm and wet. It does not matter if yor in soil or hydro, the root zone must always be keept cooler than the environment. This is how most terristerial plants on this earth have evolved. As far as the seedling...... yeah man, just let it be. Don't worry about watering either. It seems that seedlings do much better in an airy/light semi dry mix. It encourages the tap root to shoot out in search of moisture, thus creating a prolific root system. Once the TRUE sets of leaves start forming then she will really take off. (provided all other growing conditions are met) And that's when you can start feeding. The oval seedling leaves have to turn yellow/brown before you give food, otherwise you will burn it, and it will stunt, stop drinking and become crispy. The best advise I can give you is to learn how to read your plants. They will tell you what they need and when they need it.

Thank you for the information. It has been awhile since I have grown and my first time with a heat mat. Without the heat mat it stays about 74*F. Is that an ok temp?

that's fine but 70 would be better. It slows down the evaporation of the soil and helps to reduce salt accumulation from excessive evaporation. Generally 10 degrees less than ambient temps

Ok, I will throw a small vent fan in with a thermostat to bring the temps down a bit. Thanks for all the help.

give the seedlings a few more days and check if there are any sign of improvement. if you notice that growth is stunted, water twice a day using a misting bottle. once the roots are established, slowly cut back the watering every two to three days.
