hey this is my first shot under a 400watt MH in an ebb and flow hydro system, I started what I think was the light to close and no fans, I added fans to blow them around as well as moving the light futher up but I have not seen much improvement, any thoughts on what I can do.

they kinda stand but a little bent and really need supports or the fan blows them over

try turning the fan down some? put it on its lowest setting??

also, dont point the fan DIRECTLY onto the plants..

what you want, is to get it to where the plants move a little bit.. but not enough to knock them over.

It's a fine balance that you gotta kinda tune sometimes.. to get it just right.

good luck.

take some straws and cut them into accurate heights, now cut them down the middle. Open the straw up and put it around your stem, it should reclose and support ur plant and u can easily remove them

I definitely dont think the light was too close. Those babies look stretched. I had a fan directly pointed onto my 2-3 day old seedlings and they loved it; built up a great root base.

i agree, i use a 400w MH and I found that if its farther than a foot and half than they stretch. those are stretched. hold your hand at plant level and see if its too hot, if not, move it down, they will stand up on their own. mine did. fan does build strong roots. i bend mine back and forth every once in a while to strengthen roots. good luck.

you will be fine....
there still seedlings, and very delicate. seedlings loose alot of there trunk rigidity when they start to get thirsty, and it happens really fast, thats usually what makes them fall over like that, or alternately, and more likely since your plants look very happy and healthy, is that they are simply growing faster than there rootballs. give it a week before you start panicking. some strains stretch right out of the seed husk regardless of what you do, i can start under 650w of hid less than 12" away, and still stretch at the bottom of the plant, even tho there is tight node spacing.... ;)

I have my 400HPS 14 inches away from my canopy, and my 19 day old plants are 2-1/2 inches tall with 3 nodes with thick stems. So it's defintiely strain dependent as well as light proximity.

i like to call it the 'penetration phase' of growth.... in the wild, thats when the seedling would be penetrating the canopy of grassy undergrowth.....
