After growing in soil for a while, I decided to give DWC a try. I recently developed some brown roots with a slimy substance on them. After researching, I decided to give the roots a bath in H2O2 to kill whatever may be present on them. Then I light proofed my res'. So I did that 2 days ago, and now 5 of my plants are completely laying over onto the tops of my totes. The rest have very droopy leaves and branches. I am wondering if this is shock or something more serious? What are your recommendations?

Set up:
8 x 18 Gal rubber maid totes x 4 plants
Black Dog Platinum XL-U
2 x 850gal air pumps
16 x 12" air stones
Res temps are < 72 (now)
Ambient temps 79

Edit: Running GH Flora 3 part.
Still in veg at 20/4

Thanks!

root rot has taken over your plant.. i would soak in peroxide for a few minutes and empty your res and start with new water.. no light on roots at all.. that will kill the plant.. if they come back you will be ok but it will be hard to come back from both...

I would have to say...more serious. Plants laying over are not a good sign. How much reading did you do before choosing DWC? Its probably the most finicky of the systems. What's the temp of your res? Do you run a chiller, PPM and Ph of your res., how big of a swing do you allow? All are very important for DWC to work properly. Brown roots is the first sign of a warm res. The larger the res the easier it is to control. You should read up on a few other systems and just see what style works best for your style of growing and experience. Good Luck

Thank you bass1014, the h2o2 bath has been done and I did light proof the tubs. I am happy that I did something right (hopefully).

Yeah, I do not think I will be using this system in the future. I am just trying to get through this grow with it before I switch to ebb & flow. I am establishing mothers in soil for the clones now and have a flood tray, but I would love to still get a decent yield from this DWC setup.

No chiller, res temps were at 77-78 but I vented my ac to the middle of the res' and they are now running at 70 - 72. PPM = 1100, PH = 5.8 but raises to 6.5 before I change the res out on Saturdays. PH is currently at 6.0.

I forgot to mention my 600 HPS in my setup list, but it is over 4 of the totes, the black dog is over 4. This probably is irrelevant to the problem, but figured I would mention it.

Thanks guys!

The res temp is a little higher than one would like, that 70-72 sounds good. Your ph swing is going a little high, 6.3 would be the highest, more lik3 6.0. 5.8 is perfect, what I did was droped my starting to 5.6 and let is swing to 6.0-6.1. This allowed me additional time before re-fill and allows the plants to feed throughout the cycle on whatever they desired. Sounds like most issues have been with the res and the only other thing you can do is try to keep the res cooler, frozen pop bottle, floating ice pack or something similar. Good luck hopefully you can limp through and get a little bud.
