Please ID these Bugs. Hi-Res Pics

I need some help identifying two types of bugs that I found in my soil. The first one looks like a mini beetle and the second is a nasty as hell worm/penis head looking thing.

Heres the beetle with a smashed body:



And this pic shows the body in full but without a head(I cut it off).



Heres part of the penis headed grub thing:



I killed most of the beetles with soapy water, thats when the worm/grub came out of the soil(scared the shit outta me!). I killed it with soapy water and hydrogen peroxide. The background in the pics is a sheet of lined writing paper so you can tell the actual size of these things.

Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

eeeeeeewwwwwww. i assume the grub is a larvae of one of the beetles.

I think its a beatle too, I hear they taste likechicken, so try the taste dest!

thanks for the help guys i think i figured out what the larvae is. its seems like a larvae from a fungus gnat:

is that paper college rule or wide rule?

its college rule and the larvae has been cut, what is shown in the pic is about 1/3rd of the creature. its about 3 times the size of the beetle thing. they are supposed to be attracted to potato's and you can get them to tunnel to the surface if you lay a slice of potato on the soil. im going to try that tomorrow and see if i've correctly identified it and if there are anymore in my pot. ive read that they will eat the hairs of the root and can cause fungal infections of the root system.

i hate things the wiggle! gives me the creeps.

kinda like having that phobia where your afraid of spiders. I just hate small things that can crawl into your nose, ear, mouth.
