SPRINGFIELD -- The operator of a medical marijuana club was being held in the Sangamon County Jail following his arrest during a raid on the facility.
Bond was set at $15,000 for 40-year-old Scott Carriere of Springfield, who is charged with possession of marijuana.
Carriere had announced the formation of his club, which he said has three members, on Wednesday.
Carriere, who didn't disclose the name of his members, claimed he believed the operation was legal.
The use of marijuana is illegal under Illinois law. However, an Illinois House committee voted 4-3 Wednesday to pass legislation that would legalize the use of marijuana for medical purposes. Similar legislation was approved by a state Senate committee last year, but the sponsor never found enough support to call it for a vote. ........................
