Police Choppers

Hey everyone,

I don't really know if it's just in NSW Australia or not but lately I've been seeing choppers quite regularly going over houses and some times just hovering over an area, is it true that choppers hover over homes looking for hydro set ups? I've been told that they can pick up the heat from the lights and also pick up some sort of glow from the plants as well. Is this true?

I have a 400W Hps for vegging and a 600W Hps for my budding and I'm a bit worried and paranoid that they can pick these up like I've been told.

I'm no expert but i believe all they can see is the heat being expelled from a vent or exhaust so just be smart about how you exhaust it out of the house. I scrub all the air the let some exhaust out thru the attic and some thru the dryer vent. Check out you tube for "flur" or "flir" cant remembber but searh it there are great videos explaining it.

everywhere in the world i would guess has choppers flying over houses looking to bust growers... but the truth is that the infrared readers (what picks up the heat signatures) can only pick up surface temperatures.. they cant "look" inside your house with them... if your attic or top floor is well insulated, and with the use of the IR blockers they have on the market, it is becoming harder and harder for helicopters to bust small home grows... the biggers the grow opp obviously the more potential heat, the more you need to worry, so the more precaution you need to take in sealing up the area... also they look for "fountains" of hot air from exhaust equipment... so dont becareful how and where you vent your heat...

I have my ladies in a small tin shed which has no insulation.... That wouldn't hide jack shit would it?

no.. not at all... but IR blocker is cheap.. you can get around a 100' of it for like a hundred bucks... just wrap the inside.. and youll be good... what kind of lights are you using?? how many?

I have a 400W HPS and a 600W HPS. the 400W is in my vegging box and starts at 1am till 7pm and the 600W is in my Budding box and starts at 7am till 7pm

yeah.. i'd just wrap it with the IR block if you can get some... i'd worry more when the temps outside are cool.. obviously you dont want your grow room to show 120 and it only be 50 out... ya know... but if you wrap it you should be more than fine... also if it is outside imo i'd try to run all the lights during the day at the same time if possible...

A police helicopter can only pick up heat that is been exspelled from the grow~room straight outdoors.Say if you have a carbon scrubber and the air is warm that is been vented from the house via a hole cut in the side of a house.Watch the how not to get busted dvd this guy is ex police so i belive that he knows the score. He exsplains all about flur this is just another word for heat genarated in places on a home that it should'nt be comeing from.Say a lot of heat seen been vented from a loft is well worth further investigation then the police will use a car to check on the times that the heat is been exspelled from a hole in the house. They will watch for a number of days and if the heat is only comeing from a certain area for 12/12 off then that would warrant a check of any increase of electricity over the past several years.I know a little about this because i was a joiner for the local houseing for years. They would also in rented houses try to gain access by saying there has been a gas leak one real employee and a bogus police officer but they can detect heat so put all your vents in places on the back of a property.Or do has i do use fans for air movement then have the carbon scrubber in the room with the fan just pulling air in and blowing nice clean airout into the same room and have the windows open during the day this makes it harder to detect. You can also get away with it if the area heat is been exspelled from a light is put there on the outside of the house this will confuse the heat signal it will look like it is been genarated by the light. Also dont just put anything up to the windows use plasterboard foil backed this will not let any heat out. Many people think that helicopters can see heat through the roofing tiles this is not true.but do take care of heat been exspelled the best tip is use a light just above or below where the heat is been exspelled.

I have no exhaust or any kind of air coming directly from the box to outside, it's just the light in a 1.2 x 1.2 box.

So would that be better or worse do you think?

Actually thermal imaging is more high tech than was described above and soon it will be even more so. I used to have a neighbor that flew one of those helicopters and he said when a home is scanned it will show the level of heat over the entire home and what they do is look for areas that stand out above and beyond any explainable norm.

If someone has an above ground grow room and say it is in the corner of their home if the roof above that section and the two outer walls are hot enough in comparison to the rest of the house, and above any norm, that is a red flag that may result in electricity usage being monitored and other investigations being made.

If an entire home is warm/hot and even if it stands out from the homes around it normally that is seen as having the heat set higher or the a/c set higher or no a/c running or being under-insulated. But when some area sticks out like a sore thumb it raises eyebrows.

Thermal imaging does not presently look into homes, but it will before long, but it does scan all outer surfaces and that includes walls. Most people only think about roofs but they scan entire houses and since homes have less insulation in side walls than in attics that is a good place to pick up higher than normal overall temperatures.

Where it will get even easier to spot grow rooms is recently I read about a new thermal image scope/sight for the military and it is so advanced that is can pick up the thermal image of a human through a thick stone or concrete wall.

When that technology works its way to the officers grow lights themselves will be able to be picked out inside homes, especially if it is a wood frame home.

Sales of C-3 anti-detection film will go up when the new technology hits the local boys in blue.

they can now detect heat given off by plants and growtents are highly visable compared to a cab or cupboard,

1 or 2 bulbs in small space aint guna bother them.,, its when they scope a large room with 4 or more scattered bulbs that concerns them,, honestly

I'd personally be more worried about smell than IR readings. If you live in the US a IR reading usually (not I said usually) isn't enough probable cause. However if you are showing several other potential signs of a grower then that could get a cop enough probable cause to search your shit. Bottom line is just be smart about everything you do.

Smell, power consumption and keeping your op a secrect from other people is absolutely the concern in the USA. Following the link I posted above, unless the popos have enough probable cause to obtain a warrant, they aren't even allowed to scan a private residence as this would constitute a violation of our 4th amendment right to protection against illegal/unreasonable search. So says the US Supreme Court in 2003, Kyllo v. United States. The link is a long read, but important info for those of us in the USA. Now, this doesn't protect us from local departments not knowing the law and comming to get us anyway, but if they scan you before obtaining a warrant, then any evidence gathered or warrants secured by the using the scan preemptively must be thrown out. That's also not to say that local judiciary types aren't also uninformed, so if you do get nailed this way, you'll probably still have a long fight for freedom but the precedent is there.

you should use a metal halide for the vegging cuz it emits blue light waves but hps is great for budding and also the plains look for heat leaving the house from a vent or window go to google and put in never get raided again and it will help you out
