Yes sir thats what we need to do use our food for fuel. Be nice when they find a way to make fuel out of the rest of our food supply we can do like japan and feed people shit. If you think eco is the way to go,quit driving a car,cut the electricity from your house and you will have done your part to save the world.

We are broke, it is time to quit subsidizing EVERYONE! I am not against ethanol but would like to see it grow as an industry competing on its own. This government social engineering will lead us to a path of doom (like we are not close enough).

´d be pretty funny if most of our resources were used to make booze (ethanol)

I don't care about eco, to be honest. The point of it being an american made product that cannot be outsourced, would cut our dependance on foreign oil, as well as would promote a new innovative product that would make US the heart and sole of a worldwide industry. This is what Al Franken is saying. Cut all subsidies for these companies period, but as he said ethanol companies are ready to be independent and just need our government to stop stifling them and this will take off.

This wasn't an environmental thread. America currently has a trade deficit of $43.7 billion dollars and we need to increase our GDP exports in order to fix that. I say two ways, a new fuel efficient non oil dependent vehicle (ethanol, as we have the largest corn production in the world here in america), and legalization of hemp and marijuana.

Corn is not efficient enough to use for ethanol, it makes money because it is subsidized by the Government...but actually its subsidized by taxpayers, cuz the government doesn't have any money. Brazil has sugarcane, 1% of the land provides half of all the fuel used in the whole country. Its taken them almost 30 years to get that far, this is not something you do overnight. You just can't devote that much farmland just to make corn just for fuel, corn is a very heavily used food crop also

Stanley Meyer's water fuel cell

Main article: Stanley Meyer's water fuel cell

Stanley Meyer's water fuel cell[10]

Stanley Meyer claimed that he ran a dune buggy on water instead of petrol. He replaced the spark plugs with "injectors" to spray a fine mist of water into the engine cylinders, which he claimed were subjected to an electrical resonance. The "fuel cell" would split the water mist into hydrogen and oxygen gas, which would then be combusted back into water vapour in a conventional internal combustion engine to produce net energy. Meyer's claims were never independently verified, and in 1996 he was found guilty of fraud in an Ohio court.[1] He died of an aneurysm in 1998, although conspiracy theories persist in which it is claimed that he was poisoned.[11]
Main point is that our favoring of oil companies is only going to doom our nation, as well as the entire world

Hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe, giving it the #1 position on the periodic table of elements. Production of this element happens during gasoline refining, as well as during a process known as electrolysis.

Its abundance along with the fact that it's many times more combustible than gasoline make it the perfect alternative fuel.

The top image in the quote isn't an exactly accurate diagram of electrolysis so I grabbed a better one
