nice grow plants look healthy
Thanks blazin. I'm still holding my breath to see how they finish up, but they are starting to look like I'd hoped they would.

Heck yeah you can get good results with flo's. There are guys in here that do amazing things with them. My girls were growing like crazy under T5's from HTG supply...PL-55 Tek set up...cheap too...about $70 plus shipping including the veg bulbs. About $13 more for the bloom bulbs. And the best thing is there was almost NO HEAT. I had them about 2 inches from the plants with no problem at all.

well htg is where i get my stuff but all i hear is get an hps because my Flo's are gonna yield next to nothing as far as weight is concerned

just because the hps yields more it doesnt have as full of a spectrum which leads to less crystal prodution so really it is toss up

Well, if youre worried about the heat and the risk of fire, then you are probably going to have to look at something other than an HPS. Unless you have a very unusual grow area, I really think the risk of fire is VERY low... especially if it is set up correctly and you have good ventilation.

But if your mind is made up, then I would go with the lights that offer the best yield with little heat. If you have room for 4 ft bulbs, then I would try that sylverstar T5 from HTG. 6 lamps on that sucker for 30,000 lumens.

Well, I figured I was overdue for an update. I guess we are about 4 days from the breeders stated harvest timeframe of 70 days. Buds are swelling, trics are everywhere, very frosty all over. I'm surprised by how much bud is growing along the entire main stem.

Outer bud sites are starting to put on some weight and are covered in trics as well, I wasn't completely expecting that. I figured only the main cola would be frosty.

Quite a few of the lower fan leaves have shriveled and died off. Most of the upper fan leaves are very yellow and seem to be getting consumed or dying...I don't really know which. Is this normal for the strain or just part of the flushing process. I used Clearex and PH'd water yesterday for the flush, used enough water for each to get about 80% runoff. They got wet indeed. Water from here on out.

I'll be able to check my trics tomorrow afternoon. I can't wait to see how close I actually am to harvest. As always let me know what you think and any suggestions about finishing up are welcome.

woah im on day 66 aswell.... your plants look awesome.....although mines got a huge cola its still neglecting to mature as far as yours have, how annoying....the yellowing of leaves is normal its not really too much to worry about, so alls good....when you get a pic of the trichs could you put something next to the plants to scale them up?got any guesses on yield?

Hey Cheddar, I'm afraid I won't be getting any tric photos on this grow. I used to be a professional photographer with all the toys and lenses, now I'm just working with a good digital SLR with limited close-up capability. However, the plants are 12.5", 13.5" and 13.5" from the top of the soil to the top of the cola. I'll put a can of soda next to them when I take the next set of photos.

As far as yield goes, I don't have any idea. Just looking at the volume of bud and how dense it is, It sure looks like about an ounce per plant. My fingers and toes are crossed.

Doesn't look like my pollination was successful, which I can hardly believe. I harvested, stored and applied the pollen exactly as I have read to do from dozens of how-to's. If you take a look at the third photo on the last update, you can see the branch that I pollinated with the piece of paper on it. I'm not going to harvest it when I get the rest, just in case I'm wrong...but it sure doesn't look any different than the other bud sites. I don't get it, I covered those pistils with pollen.

Ah well, it's an excuse to go ahead and order those diesel ryders I want to grow next time.

Hey guys,

I don't know if this helps, but I have been growing 3 AK47 x diesels from Lowlife. They are in a cabinet under CFLs. The temps were great at about 75-78 F, but the yellowing was getting really bad. It started in the fan leaves and moved up the plant. One plant started dying and one turned herm.

I took a few CFL's out of the cabinet (the highest wattage ones) and the yellowing is completely gone. The dying plant has popped back and is growing some nice looking buds on it although it is really small now due to not maturing for the 1 week it started to turn the other way.

I tried everything to save the plants, and when I took out the extra CFL's the yellowing started to dissapear and the plants looked healthier in less than 24 hours.

Figured I'd take that picture for scale while I was cleaning up the nasty, dead leaves. Checked trics again, definitely getting closer. I'm thinking sometime in the middle of next week. My basement is getting stinky, kinda put off by that as I'm using a fairly kick ass carbon filter. Is it really possible this thing needs it's carbon replace already?

Haven't chopped yet. Waiting for the cloudy/amber trics. Probably gonna chop the eldest plant today and the rest this weekend or early next week. I decided I wasn't in a hurry and wanted to make sure they were good and ready to come down. I've still got the dehumidifier in the cab so with the lights off the temp and humidity should be perfect for drying.

hey sunshine! how'd the cutting go? you msut have executed them by now? my smokes pretty sweet, smells a bit musty until you break open the bud, then it turns fruity....you get a decent yield?

Hey Cheddar.

I cut them down on Tuesday night. I think the 3 plants are gonna yield about 2.5 zips. Smoked top of one cola that was already all dried out. Im using my big dehumidifier and its working perfectly. I'm at 55% humidity and hanging around 75 degrees F. They should dry well and then I'm curing them for about 2 weeks.

I got an entire bag of sugary little bud leaves...should I dry them with the buds before I use them for hash or cooking or put them straight into the freezer?

HUMIDITY ISSUES

since you have a small cab and all that, why don't you try dry propylene glycol (what they put in cigar humidors) in there to manage the humidity... or get some dry cedar to suck up moisture.... or do a combo of the glycol and the plugs????

The humidity in my basement would destroy those means of control. The fresh air intake is bringing in VERY WET air...the large dehumidifier is filling up its resevoir daily. But, on a bright note, it is keeping my cab humidity perfect for drying at 55% RH and about 70-75 degrees Farenheit. Bud is drying at a very nice but not too fast pace and no mold forming at all. So far I'm very happy with the drying process.

I'm in the middle of making a batch of Gumby hash at the moment as well.

auto big bud at dope seeds made by auto fems
no problem man, I think the thing is we cant underestimate these autoflowering types, each time a new auto strain comes out it seems to be breeding in some awesome sized yields, i would wanna know what ak47 auto x big bud would do to the yield....although sometimes apparently the autoflower trait can be bred out aswell...dang have a doob man :bigjoint:

Well, it was great while it lasted. Total yield was right at 3 oz of very sticky, very sweet smoke. Me and my buddy smoked it sparingly this entire summer. I only ended up with 8 seeds off the branches I pollinated (a bit disappointing) and also ended up with about a quarter sized disc of gumby hash. WOW!! First time I had hash and it was spectacular.

My buddy, who has smoked hash for years, thought it was outstanding. Thanks for all the help along the way fellas. Not sure when my next grow will be, but it's going to be larger and I will certainly make a journal.
