that's what i was going to do but was advised against it from the guy at the garden store. he said that the high temps of the exhaust would burn out a charcoal filter or odor sock and could maybe even start a fire. he said it's best to filter the air in the room before it's exhausted. makes sense to me. so i bought an ozone generator to filter the smells in the room and i haven't had any other problems with odor being exhausted out my ac.
From what I've read.That ozone generator can literally rob your buds of any smell after harvest.Have you noticed that at all?

if you dried it in a room while using an ozone generator in the same room I would imagine it would. I have one and before I got it I used one of those timed scent misters and kept it on for the first few days thinking more smell control is better but with the ozone generator in the same room you couldn't smell the mister at all.

All an AC unit does is move heat from one space to another space. Unless they have a humidifier built in, they are a closed loop system. The water is just condensation that drips off the cold indoor coil. The water is not pure at all, so I would dump it in the sink.

Remember that you will want to monitor your humidity closely while running AC. It has a tendency to dry things out. A small humidifier (the cold emission type) will help you keep some moisture in the air.

i checked on my room today. the ac was set at 72 but it was keeping the room in the low 80's. im not evev running my other 1000 watt light so this is kind of frustrating. i guess im going to air condition the room outside of the grow room as well. i had originally designed the intake to comne from a room about 75 feet away but i think this may be a mistake. my lights are vented this way too but i think i need to redesign everything before the summer really hits. basically the airr that is cooling my lights is room temp air so probably not good enough to begin with.

i guess i will run an ac around my grow room and in my grow room. this means i will have to add a circuit and ill have to run an ozone machine in between the grow room and the ac. fuck i hate heat.

Your ozone generator is in the same room as your plants? <<< that will kill or at least hurt you and your plants it needs to be in like your exhaust vent or separate room that isn't used by you or a box that all your exhaust goes though before going outside.

your room is a room inside a room right? so does the outside room have central ac in it? cause if it does you could take the central ac vent and extend it to your grow room. Just a thought

I've researched portable a/c's for a long time now. You will definitely want to read this.

First off a few of you have posted that you have your grow rooms within another room. This is very good for a portable a/c IF you get the right one.

Many portable a/c's suck in air from within the room to do DOUBLE duty inside the a/c. They will suck in air from the front and shoot it thru the compressor side to cool the air over its grill. This will blow out the top as cold air.

The a/c will also suck in the room air from the back and sides to cool off the condensor side and shoot that out thru the exhaust. This gets ducted outside the room.

The problem with this is that you really don't want to use the ALREADY cooled air inside the grow area to cool the condensor side of the a/c. This is a total waste of cooled grow room air because it cools the condensor and gets blown outside.

What you want to do is get a portable a/c with dual exhaust. This way the a/c never uses the cooled air in the room to cool the condensor. It uses 2 hoses in the back of the unit......one to suck air from outside the room and cool the condensor, the other blows out the hot air.

Two very important factors to make this work correctly.

1) The air outside your grow room can't be hot. It needs to be somewhat cool or near ambient temp of your house. Most likely 75 to 80 degrees would be a safe but I'm sure it can be higher. I know window units use outside air to keep the condensor cool so it should work with portables. Window units can use over 100 degree air but I think they are made much better than portables.

2) The exhaust air from the condensor should NOT be blown back into the outside area of your grow room. Vent that shit to the outside if you can!

Questions you may want to ask about your purchase of a portable a/c include:

Warranty, Dual exhaust, 24 hour timer with auto restart if you have a power failure and loudness. Also ask if it has a dehumidifier function and heat if needed.

Don't go cheap or too low on the BTU's. If you have 2000 watts you better get 10,000 btu or above.

I will be looking to buy one soon so I may have more info in a week or 2.

what i did was vent it right outside the grow room into the containing room.. this seems to be the problem. but i cant vent it outside because i dont want any smells getting out. so i could buy a ozone inline deal and send it through that but i am over budget (6000) so i guess im going to run my uvonair ozone generator that is not inline. i will run it in containing room and then use a window mounted air conditioner in this room to suck away all the hot air from the portable. i designed this room to bring in air from a room 50 feet or more away but that is not working to well. so maybe i can cut the air lines and draw in air from containing room and then i can return this portable. if not, then i might think about cutting down to one 1000 watt light because i am nervous about using so much fucking electric

Not sure if it would help your situation but there is a place on fleabay called foothill filters , They have carbon filters with fans on them Might check some of there filters out . I have one of them and it does do the job well for me . Just my 2 cents . PEACE !

I have a question. For a room 10' X 12', running 3 600's, which 9-10,000 BTU portable AC unit is the most efficient? Is there a site that does a comparo of the different units?
Look for the highest EER number. The higher the number the better. Most should be around 9 I believe

I have 4 1000 watt lights in a 11x11x8 room with a 5,000 btu window unit but it cant keep up with the lights the temps are like 85 degrees in there thats running a exhaust fan every 30 mins and 2 fans in the room I want to buy a portable a/c so the room is completly sealed and run the exhaust inside the the old central air ducts in the house. Im looking at a 535 sq 1350 watt a/c it doesnt state the btu's the room is only 121 sq foot so thats nearly 4 times the a/c's coverage to you guys think it will work

hay bro........... i got the same room as you. but i'm a bit bigger. 12x12x8 but as for me i'm get n a unit that is 10,000 at the least for btu's. my buddy has the same room and he has a 11,000 btu unit and drops his room dureing hot hot days to a stable 78 to 81 degrs. and on alot of the time dureing 95 plus weather. so since you do have heat problems and are gonna get worse maybe on the hot ass days the more btus the better.

none of them say whether they will turn back on if lost power. i bet they dont because the one i have now doesnt. this means you cant hook to timer or enviro control

Single hose will exhaust smell from your grow area. You definitely do not want to vent out the window. You could vent into another room if you don't mind cutting holes in the wall. The units work decently for grow tents.

Dual hose units "supposedly" don't draw air from the room, but my personal experience with a sunpentown model showed that it did pull some air from the grow room (albiet not as severe as a single hose unit).

If you want to hook it up to a temperature controller, be aware of amperage. Stick to anything 12k btu or under. The model will need to have an auto restart function, or manual controls (dials/knobs that you turn).

right. but i think the dual hose ac's still exhaust air the same way a single hose does. only difference is the dual hose will use outside air to cool its coils instead of using air that is already cooled thus resulting in less efficency

im going with the cheaper dual hose design. just placed my order.

Well guys after purchasing 2 portables....and bringing them both back, I'm sorry to say I wont be using one in the near future.

The dual hose from Walmart sucked in all the air from the back vents even tho it was supposedly "dual hose". Don't let that fool ya. The unit needs to be enclosed in the back so it doesn't suck "much" air from the grow environment. When I say "much" it's because I found out myself that aLL portable a/c will still suck air from the environment. Even if it's enclosed in the back and has two hoses.

So I went and ordered the one all the hydro shops have. The Hydrofarm ACAC12 portable a/c. This a/c has the enclosed bottom a dual hose unit should have. It was made well and shot out fridgid cold air.

The problem was the fan didn't turn off and the temp settings kept reverting back to wherever they wanted to be. Called up tech support at Hydrofarm and got all my answers. Very curteous and helpful people. Told me the unit was defective and to bring it back no charge.

I believe this a/c would have done a great job if I decided to replace it with the same unit and I would definitely suggest this particular one. But all the back and forth with portable a/c's was getting me pissed off. I don't own a truck so it was a bitch every time I had to bring it back. So I gave up on portables and I'm thinking about the ice boxes.

I don't want to get off topic so I'll discuss the ice boxes only if I'm asked about them.
