LONG BEACH - And here we always thought marijuana was supposed to help you mellow out.

Turns out that wasn't the case Monday afternoon when two armed bandits shot a 41-year-old employee of a Long Beach medical marijuana clinic during a robbery at the location, police said Wednesday.

The robbery began at about 2:10 p.m. when two armed men entered the medical marijuana clinic in the 2600 block of Magnolia Avenue, said Nancy Pratt, a Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman.

One of the armed men pointed a handgun at an employee and threatened him while the other robber gathered all the marijuana on hand, Pratt said.

During the robbery, a scuffle broke out between one of the gunmen and a customer in the dispensary and the employee was shot in the lower body, she said.

The two armed men then fled the business on foot. It was not clear in which direction they traveled, she said.

The victim, a 41-year-old male, was taken to a local hospital with a non-life-threatening injury, Pratt said.

The robbery comes on the heels of a string of armed robberies in the Lakewood and Long Beach area, but this incident does not appear to be related to the recent spree, Pratt said.
"It's a different suspect description," she explained.

I do not condone that at all! But I see what your saying and unfortunately agree. Not that it will all be targeting dispensaries, but all business like gas stations, banks, anywhere where there may be money or valuables.
Someone tried breaking into a car wash recently just for maybe a couple hundred in quarters. The companies alarm scared them off, but it happens about 2-3 times a year near Christmas and I expect to see it happen more during this time of the year. There is always a rash of break In's when it gets close to Christmas and people are getting desperate. I DON'T CONDONE IT, but it is part of business and I expect it to get worse.

Ya but the bad thing about someone robbing a dispensary is that anti pot douchebags will jump on this. They will say how marijuana is ruining society, and if they legalize it this will be happening everywhere.

Outlaw banks and cash registers. That is where money gathers and just the existence of them causes people to rob them, sometimes violently.

Bang on dude. Unfortunately you are right. Guess it goes with the territory though. Good medicines in one place and no armed guards to protect it. It's crazy.
