I think its more of a combo between high humidity, low temps, and poor airflow through the plants.

As for getting rid of it, it depends how bad it is. If you catch it early, you might get away with just cutting out the infected leaves, and keeping the temp high and humidity low. You could also try spraying them with Potassium BiCarbonate... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001EJKXEO It works pretty well and you can use it without burning the shit out of the buds. If thats not enough, you can use more of a chemical fogger type thing, but that will be much more harsh and you can't use it if you are anywhere near harvesting.

Getting your temps up and humidity in check, I have found, will also help it from spreading so fast. I have read that you can use a sulfur burner, but I've never fucked with that.

It kind of a pain, but there are worse things that could happen to your garden. Good luck.

ok, thanks heretic. i have caught it at its early stages, so im gonna try to lower my humidity before i start on any kind of spray regimen, that shit always freaks me out

NP, man. That stuff in the link is pretty mild, and can be used well into the flowering cycle. As for their claim of no ill effects even if sprayed on the day of harvest, I haven't needed to, so I can't say exactly how it effects our specific plants.

right on, appreciate it. just skeptical of sprays for some reason, ya know? it always seems like i end up in a research rage when im told to spray something

after you get this pm licked... try adding another fan for air movement too.. i had pm my first run in my non sealed and added another fan to circulate air now i have 2 hung from the ceiling blowing on the girls and no pm at all... my rh is low right now, but inthe last month i have exceeded 65% rh for a sustained period of time and have no signs of pm anywhere

^^^ you do make a great point SF. more air movement makes sense. Do i have to do it with another inline fan or will an simple oscillating fan from walmart work?

Just be careful not to stress your plant leaves with the wind from the fans. Try and get as low powered of a fan as possible if the fan will be directly blowing on the leaves. And oscillating for sure. A few higher powered fans under and over your plants can help the air flow as well.
I have a question for the growers out there: do you run your water in hydro when the lights are off? I am doing dwc/bubbleponics in buckets, and run the water 24/7. Someone mentioned that I should turn the water off during the dark cycle, as this would reduce powdery mildew from occurring, due to the reduced humidity levels in the room during the dark cycle. (when powdery mildew supposedly likes to form). According to him when the lights are off the plants don't need the water, and the lack of water actually increases bud production. I've been too scared to try it.
