PPM question

250watt
FoxFarm hydro growbig /Tigerbloom
ph 5.9
dwc buckets connected to a main res
water temp 75f
air temp 85f
Hey all,
how is everyone running ppm's in the high hundreds if not thousand, I cant seem to get past 160 on my Bluelab without getting burn within 3days, plants are 3weeks old, if I bring ppm up to 170 I start getting a pulsing look to the leaves and within a couple days burn starts to appear, at 150 growth seems to be good but could it be better,,,,,,,,,,thanks for any help.

not sure about the ppm, im sure lots of peeps know about that, but i would lower the water temp and air temp seems a little high for both, your gonnna get slower growth.. are you running an in line fan or cool hood??

Dude I run 850 during veg. and everything I do looks fine. You should calibrate your ppm meter, something wrong with it. My clones eat 150ML of clonex solution, making the ppm over 1000. You need to check regular water with that meter, see what the reading is!!

I have 2 pens and they are both calibrated the Bluelab is new and factory calibrated and the other reflects the same #'s, my tap water is .080,,,,,I dont get it. I'm new to hydro and I'm just trying to find #'s that work, seems like @ 170 I get burn within 2 to 3 days @ 160 I get burn in about 4days @ 150 everything seems ok,,,,I think.

Try getting your water temp down by freezing a gallon of water or bottles of water and put them in your Rez tank (should not be over 71 degrees). Try to get your air temp around 75 and what is the humidity in the room?

Your answer - it's related to plant age. Your PPM should not exceed 200 at this stage. In a week or so it can range from 200-300. However, read the plant and not the meter all the time.

its a 3 dig Bluelab, whatever the reading Ive been reading the plants, I actually put a measuring stick in the plants so I can monitor growth, when all is well the new growth is noticeably fast, but after a week of 160ppm things have slowed right down so I upped ppm from 155 to 170 today, it only took acouple of hrs to start to notice growth and color change,,,,now I'm on burn watch,,,,,,,,,,,Thanks for the replies

sorry, but your recommended ph levels are way out of whack. low ph is good for veg and early flower, but higher ph in mid, late flower allows for the proper element uptake.

Your meter must be off by a factor of 10. .08 is lower than any RO water I've seen and my ppm meter($200 Hanna) doesn't even have a decimal point when reading ppm's. Next question is your meter set to EC? and is the 170 reading really 1.70? This could be your problem also.

hydro is fast but noboody will see new growth or even a difference in a couple of hours. you need to relax and think it through.

does you meter have a 3 or 4 digit readout? if a 3 they are multiplied by 10 so it would be 1600.
I think you'll find that this is the issue and yes your too high if so. With my hm meter it shows a x10 when past 999 ppm. You may want to look a bit closer at the display for a decimal point or a x10. Also I may be way wrong but a 75f res doesnt seem excessively warm. I to am a newb lol.

Well I guess I better get working on a chiller lol. I'm running around 68-70 now and its -17 outside, its gonna be tough to keep my res under 75 come May-June Oh No!!! Just when I started to like this hydro stuff lol.

Im sure they do but I sometimes have 3 res's going. I really think a chiller of sorts is in order. I'm a referigeration mechanic, how hard could it be !!!! lol. But yes it would work in this case I'm sure.

I would suggest a chiller for those who are not so inclined to be vigilant checking your temps and levels. Aquarium supply houses can sell you one. Supertoner's advice is always useful and straightforward.
