pro mix and salt build up

Wondering how people avoid this in promix or other peat based meduims. I have recently changed from ffof to promix. Also I have gone from organic grow to a two part salt based grow. I like the initial results (much faster growth, cleaner too i swear ffof was giving me spider mites) but... after some time i get salt build up and i have been measuring their runoff to give me a better sense of whats going on and try to catch it before it happens. I feed 5-800ppm in veg, 800-1200ppm in flower, and I keep a journal of (almost) everthing i do in there. any feed back appreciated.

I do flush my soilless medium once every week, If im feeding heavy.

general rule, leech medium every three weeks.

well something very clever somebody told me when I started growing was Nutrient Nutrient Flush ...I water 2x with Nutrient one time with just plain water ...I have never seen any problems with this and I use 1/3 less Nutrients than somebody who does not follow this regimen

Well I do feed-water-water and am still coming up with build up.. I think the key is to water thru more that has been working wonders for me now. My new clones are popping up well with no signs of burn :)

ENZYMES will really help break down your excess fertilizer (which is a salt) so the plant can uptake them more readily and stop any buildup. Using a high quality fertilizer helps too. In my many years of using and loving pro-mix, I've never had to flush once- except of course the last 2 weeks of flowering.

Sounds like you're using to much nutes. I use promix and never have buildup
I, nute nute water and stop feeding the last 2 weeks

what size pot do you use? how long are they vegging in that pot before they start to flower? flushing with a very mild nute solution can actually remove more salt build up than just using plain water is what i read in the bible

Pro Mix user for years. Indoor and outdoor. I've never had a problem with salt using it. I also make sure to get at least a 10% runoff after each watering or feeding. If your medium isn't taking in the water I use a half tsp of Dawn dish soap to a gallon of water and it helps with the plant absorbing the water/ nutes.

House and Garden Drip Clean from start to finish you will not have a problem with salt buildup. I don't use promix but I use sunshine advanced #4.

I'm pretty sure it was a combination of too much feeding and not enough water running through the pots to wash the old salts out. I used get begining signs of nburn in all size pots after about 3 weeks. I feed 5-600 veg 800-1200 flower every 7-10 days. Flushing with 1-200 ppm of feed leaches old salt while still leaving them with something to feed on. Sometimes i use feed sometimes i dont but it always fixes the problem..

peat is inert which means it acts like hydro medium, ph levels at 5.5-6.0 with the sweet spot at 5.8

i dont leach or flush before harvest ever , i dont have salt build up at all, my soil rhizo conditions are well balanced, and i use sea green to help keep my salt in check

and like above i feed 2 days on then one day of just water

I used sea green on my newest run and still ran in to clawed leaves, burning on edges, etc... not super bad or detrimental but i noticed it ran some extra water thru the pots and the new growth is back to normal. My pH is in line with your guide thats not the problem. what nutrients are you using and what PPM do you feed with?? Do you water through at all?? I was not and I conclude that to be the problem. My new run in veg looks good and stuff thats flowering is filling in fine.

if you use the fert at 1/2 the strength of what the directions say you shouldnt get a salt build up....

Also alternatate waterings between adding your fert and regular water...

A weeks watering consists of straight water 2 times, 1 time with fert

I need something more solid to go off of rather than 1/2 strength, as in ppm numbers. you dont know what im using or the frequency of use so that is a misleading statement. over feeding was not the problem

no you dont use ppms levels with pro mix....now your into the hydro rez waters ppm

If you think you have a salt build up its from using the fert all the time (overfeeding) ....salt is the ferts residue building up
