Problem with seed

In a bit of a pickle at the momemt, I got a seed I'v been trying to germ for about 3 days now. I soaked in water, then into paper towel, another seed which was done at the same time germinated fine. This one cracked, and the taproot is clearly visible, but it is not emerging out or growing in any way. I'v placed in soil, water, paper towel again, tried everything, but still taproot is not growing. What can be wrong?

Also, off topic but may as well ask here, I have another plant, bubblegummer. The cots came, then a set of leaves came. These set of leaves grew until they reached quite a good size, and then the second set of leaves started coming. These are still very small, only came out about 2 days ago, but these are very discoloured compared to the first leaves. They are sort of yellow, not completely yellow, just yellower than the first set, the difference is very obvious. What is this? N deffiency, too much light etc?

But if it was a dud would the taproot still have shown? Its there but hasnt extended past the seed, if you know what I mean...

Well, you said you tried everything? Should've just left it in soil. The constant touching and changing of place must've killed it. If there's one thing I have learned about germination , it's - Don't fuck with the seeds ;) The seed casing might have slowed it down, but anyways, it wasn't probably viable, if it didn't even have the strength to push the tap root out. Forget about it.

About the bublegummer. New leaves at first can be differently colored. But if it stays that way, your soil is probably too hot for seedlings. ( It means it has too much nutrients for starting a plant)

Cold and overwatering can easily kill just germinated seeds. They'll literally just turn to mush inside the shell. I find it useful to put the damp paper towels in a plastic bag to keep it from evaporating and getting cold. Make sure the paper towels are damp but not soaking, and put it in a warm place. I put bag with paper towel/seeds in the globe of a bedroom lamp to keep it warm. As long as the bag is closed, it won't evaporate. It won't use up the air in the bag (leave a tiny amount) because it's tiny and you want to take it out as soon as the root comes out anyway.

I've lost so many seeds to overwatering, cold, and evaporation.. it's the one part of weed i seem to screw up every single time I get back into growing.

Yeah I had it in a jar (airtight), same one I used for my 4 other germinations. Only problem is I had 2 seeds at once and I thought I'l just chuck em in together and figure out which ones which once they grow, now I dont know which seed to reorder :wall:
