anyone running an indoor type 30k btu + propane heater in their vented/non sealed grow? night time temps get into the 40's-50's and with the cost of Electricity in new england a propane heater may be the way to go.

will there be any added benefit of co2 generated via the combustion?

what other VOC's should i worry about building up (carbon monoxide, etc.) from a clean burning indoor type propane heater?

at night time the room doesnt get vented since temps are so low. once lights flip on and room heats up the propane heater would sit idle with only the pilot light going.

Run the lights at night like everyone else in the world :)

That pilot light is the main reason people prefer oil filled heaters ...fire is a real concern

i do hahaha still gets into the 40s when lights off mid day
Turn off your exhaust 30 min to a hour before lights off and see of it changes. I personally wouldn't be thrilled to run a heater but if I had to I guess I would.
Is not so much the burning of propane that i dissagree with just the idea that heat is needed.
I ran all winter without adding heat and it gets well below 0f here for several months, with a couple months -20f at night and around 5f during the day and I never had a issue. I'd look into retaining more of the heat from your lights if at all possible.

i know theres plenty of greenhouse guys running propane and NG heaters but wasnt sure if they were venting the combustion fumes

Hi there Fella, just gonna throw my 5 pennies worth in the hat: propane=condensation which forms when the temperature of the surface is colder than the dew point of the air, in other words u raise the humidity in ur rig. On top of that u run the risk of the whole place going up in flames; wouldn’t wanna explain that to the insurance company lol.

Yes u do raise the co2 levels, but leaving it on all night?

There’s a reason no-one does it!

In vented as well? U will starve ur flame of oxygen, so the gas fills the room, the lights go on = spark = :fire:

Or connect to your indoor heating system

I agree with growingforfun.

Let's think about this differantly. This is a 24x24... so why not throw up a wall and make it 2x 12x24 rooms and run flip boxes? Or since you already have lights and hardware to fill it just do alternate schedules? It will be the same electric cost, but keep the heat in.

during summer running lights on during dead heat of the day is no good. i only need propane heater night time heat during hard winter months for night time. during summer the garage vents pretty much wide open 100% of the time since the rooms get up to 90F. we're coming out of winter now and spring is starting so with warmer temps running any lights during the day will not work either. im hoping to have a heating setup ready to go for october-december time when Maine starts seeing the cold temps

the pilots on those put out 1000 btu might be all u need for heat.u got that big underground?link into that by the way I maka living installing stuff like that
i thought about that but seemed more trouble than it was worth and didnt want to get the propane company out looking at my place. i can pickup a 100lb bottle pretty easily and run it myself.

i need about 15kw of electric to keep this barn of a garage heated at night. the 2 5000w greenhouse heaters i have now cost me 700 a month to operae lol. CMP is killing me!

Honestly you should be able to figure this out... run alternate schedules when it's cold and at night when hot.

Or just buy the heater and be done with it lol just trying to help ya think outside the box an save money

honestly i like winter a lot. just gotta dial in the grows a little better. right now im seeing 2.1-2.2 lbs per light solid nuggage yields. if i can keep my night time temps in winter hotter and closer to light on temps ill be happy. the goal is to get close to or better than 3lb per light without having to run sealed. for 12 lights so far i am paying 2300 or so a month electric lol
