Pure Cocoa Butter

BOOYAH just sourced pure food-grade organic cocoa butter and it's not going to cost me an arm and a leg, or my firstborn!
does anybody have any experience/pointers on cocoa butter extraction?
and what would YOU do with the end product?

also: the same supplier also carries blocks of stearic acid (a saturated fatty acid found in both coconut oil and cocoa butter in high concentrations) - has anybody used this before? it looks *solid at room temp, like a hard bar of soap, which suggests all sorts of confectionery uses to me....

interesting... I've never used it nor heard of it being used... I've heard of coconut oil being used with good success... i'd love to hear more about people trying this.

i looooooove palmer's products.... i almost cried when my pharmacy discontinued the lip butter....

i've thought about transdermal applications too, but the more i read about it the less willing i am to experiment with it (i guess to get high transdermally you have to absorb a LOT of thc... and i get hives from playing with my girls sometimes).

oh, no, this is my initiation into canna-infused chocolate-making..... keep your fingers crossed for me. i've never done this before, and my 'support' system is my friend the chocolatier apprentice who lives clean across the country, via fb and email... *knocking wood*

Good luck kitty!! Just remember slow and low is key. You can always bring the heat up but it's a pain in the ass when I gets to high.

thanks guys, right now i'm still waaaaay in the research stage (melting points, etc. etc.). meanwhile a measly 2 lbs of the stuff is reeking my kitchen up like chocolate whenever i take a whiff. it's driving my toddler insane; mommy is a mean holdout bitch right now ;) good thing for lock-n-lock containers.

i try (when i can) to make my butter (using actual dairy butter etc.) in the sun for a few hours .... it has never let me down. the butter i end up with is the colour of blond fullmelt, and deadly (a youngster i know recently had a quasi-religious experience on a piece of carrot cake; i warned him to start with half...). i may just have to wait and try that with the cocoa; it seems like the safest (ie. without fucking it up) method right now for this *stoner*......

I've never heard of the sun method.... so you mix the weed butter and water just like usual but put it in a container in the sun.... black container?

i usually just use a big metal cauldron (on the wish list - cast iron dutch oven), put it out in the morning, bring it inside at dusk, stir, put it in the fridge, repeat. i don't use water, but after an hour or so (once the butter melts) i give it a stir to make sure the shake's all saturated.

wow this is such a great idea, and I assume you've done it many times with no ill effects correct? one would worry about contamination if it doesn't get hot enough etc.....

but I love the idea, it gets very hot here in the summer and I would LOVE to manifest such desert heat into delicious cannabutter!

this is what the end product looks like:
(actually this is a bit dark because it's already started to melt... see the light spot on the lower right section? in solid form it's that colour.

on really hot days i just do one day, i only repeat because sometimes it takes a few hours until the butter melts (which is when the action happens, oui?). if i run out over the winter i use the oven set on "warm". that's how i've made most of my butter (i do 6 to 10 lb batches every day that i think it's hot enough out to during the summer) for the last 2 summers, and i've yet to have a complaint (i gave 2 ppl, um, 'issues' but they were a lactose-intolerant and a gluten-intolerant, and they ate what they ate fully knowing that there were offending substances to each of them so i don't count them, just to be completely honest).
i use dry shake, and i've heard that the older the shake the better decarbed it is (better for eating). i seem to have finally managed to cycle it so the shake i'm using is always roughly a year old. thank goodness for kind donors.

and i forgot to mention the final stage is to freeze it once before you use it. apparently, as well as halting any unfriendlies, this helps with the glandular breakdown and makes the thc more bioavailable.

i've also just recently read a thread about using soy lecithin for something called 'liposomal encapsulation' which just seems to be nerdspeak for "even better bioavailability" so i'm looking into that this summer.

EDIT: did i mention you want to keep it covered to avoid getting bugs, dust, little nubbly things off trees, etc. etc. out?

001.jpg (sorry it's sideways)

i bought one of these at ikea ($12) and it has *changed *my *life. i have no idea what it's actually for, but it's like a garlic press on steroids and i love it.

ok I'm gonna try this.
My doc says using the lower fan leaves will result in higher cbn/cbh levels which is better he says for pain control..........any thoughts on that?
I saw cocoabutter and thought this was a thread about preventing stretch marks............works great for ashy skin.
:)

i had never heard that before but i'm intrigued..... must look into that.
just to make sure, all the above ^^ refers to normal butter, yeah (in case you were skimming)? i'm probably 2 steps short of noob when it comes to the cocoa, for now it's just sitting in the pantry veiled in anticipation, beside my vanilla beans, which i'm also too intimidated to use yet ;)

Perhaps mix up the cocoa and nilla get yer cam set up rub in THOROUGHLY being sure to document the entire process with pics and let us see the results.
All in the name of science of course.
;)

Sorry I hadda get that out in able to carry on a serious conversation regards cocoabutter, the vanilla reference..............I love vanilla so hurry up and figure this shit out so you can tell me how to do it.
