Purple City Genetics Gush mints

Gush Mints always surprises me how much it shoots up during flowering. I thought that I kept it short enough in veg this time, but I'm still maxing out my lighting height in my tent.
Yeah it is a great plant, im not sure why I don’t see more of it over here on the east coast

this is the S1 at day 36. Definitely more squat than the original, looks like a great plant. It’s at an awkward spot in the tent so i haven’t really gotten to get a good smell in a few days to see if I can notice any different terps.

Pretty sure it’s day 44 of flower on the gush mints S1, it’s looking great, really chunky like the clone, but more squat and indica, no trellis net and it’s still standing perfectly. This plant has developed either the 2nd most or the most Powdery Mildew spores of any plant in the tent, so it’s not extremely pm resistant, although I dealt with pm on almost every grow since the 2nd one, and the original gush mints I had suffered just as bad through it, and each time was excellent smoke, what with me plucking leaves with spores and spraying up until week 6ish with potassium bicarbonate, hypochlorous acid, green clean, canna control, or regalia (I’ve dealt with pm so much I have options, even more if we go into my veg ipm sprays). But regardless, the PM is not that serious on any plants in the tent. Haven’t had much of a chance to smell test lately, but here are the pics:IMG_3023.jpeg

no signs of the finish line yet, 3 out of 5 plants in the tent are on there finishing nutrient blend, so it’s just this gush mints seed and the deathstar that are still in mid bloom.

Make sure you always use storage solution with your ph meter, and it should last a long time, even with the cheap ph pens. Also if you add fulvic acid to your feed, it will help with ph swings, in that it's an organic chelator. It will also allow you to run a somewhat lower EC, as nutrients are better absorbed by the plant when fulvic is incorporated.

I like this stuff: https://www.mrfulvic.com/
Interesting! I've experimented some with fulvic acids but always had better results with humic acid. I probably didn't have a good source back then!

Pekacid or commercially what's in Drip Clean is another additive that makes the nutrient more readily available.

Chopped the S1 today at the conclusion of day 70, forgot to snap a pic. My thoughts on the grow side, structurally, she is a beast. Squatter than the original clone, but super fat nuggets, disproportionately chunky. Smell is sweeter to my recollection of the original, but resin “frost”, is less, it’s not iced right out. Has the purple senescence. But I think it’s value is in breeding, from a growing side, it is just the most structurally sound plant I have grown.

Back at it again, Tuesday was day 1 of my veg cycle for these 6. I’m gonna try and apply everything I’ve learned to these girls and see if I can’t nail it.IMG_5447.jpeg

lights back up and lowered after the first 12 hours of darkness. Started jack’s ultraviolet bud initiator today, along with fulvic, humic, liquid kelp extract, amino acids, cannazyme, monosilicic acid, beneficial bacteria, and a weekly compost tea.:leaf::hump:.IMG_5606.jpeg

we shall see if I’ve made any improvements over the last almost 2 years to my recipe on this strain…or if I’ve implemented too much too soon without enough R&D

week 1 of flower over and they are looking good, I have had some small spider mite issues in other tents, so I’m treating those, and monitoring this, going to be more diligent about removing detritus from the grow. But these ladies have not been affected visibly yet, I’m changing clothes between tents, so fingers crossed. IMG_5638.jpeg
so now entering week 2 of flower I’m using my jacks 12-4-16 base for RO, mag. sulfate, pot. sulfate, fulvic and humic, cannazyme, beneficial bacteria, liquid kelp, monosilicic acid, aminos, and a wetting agent, 3 times daily and a weekly 50/50 aerated compost tea/nutrient blend.

I revamped the recipe a little, I got rid of the potassium sulfate and replaced with mono potassium phosphate and I think I’m getting a better result, the 12-4-16 seems to be a solid base as far as replenishing micronutrients in pure water sources, but it is certainly lacking in phos for most cultivars liking. I also cut back to 75% recommended feed rate from 80%. I’ll be back with pictures tomorrow, I’m going to be defoliating tonight.

Week 4 down, they definitely seemed to like the new mix, I’m still getting some tip burn, so next 5 gallons will be at 70% strength. I’m also noticing some lightness on the leaf edges, like a lime green, I’m thinking possibly magnesium deficiency? So I’m gonna add a little more epsom salt next time as well.IMG_0142.jpeg

Very nice moms my man! To say the place I have to grow in is in less than ideal circumstances is a gross understatement, and I have 5 kids, so it’s hard to dump money into infrastructure, but one day I’ll have the genetics room and the flower rooms and a veg. Until then I’m just trying to keep the keepers going and get my mixes refined.

Forgot to post yesterday, Week 5 down and I’m stressed. I upped the potassium and now I’m getting the same burning on the edges and now purpling on new growth edges that to me looks more like potassium deficiency than mag deficiency which is what too much potassium would cause. But I upped the MKP to 8 grams for 5g, so I’m starting to think with the purpling maybe it could be phosphorus deficiency…but I’ve been using jacks for a year and I’ve grown gush with it before, with no MPK and did not have this issue, so that leads me to believe toxicity. However the last time with just the jacks 12-4-16 base for RO signs of K deficiency were there, and I’m coming into the time when more K is good so, I’m inclined to leave it and see if it starts to use it, idk. Thoughts? I most likely will reduce to 6g per 5g to see if that gives access to the mag, or if it makes it worse.View attachment IMG_0223.jpegIMG_0225.jpegIMG_0224.jpeg

Week 6 complete, they are VERY sticky, and starting to look and smell quite nice. I’ve been in contact with the people at Jacks to ask them for their input on the leaf edges burning, they said possibly magnesium deficiency using the Ultraviolet formula to initiate bloom, and he recommended alternating feedings of the UV formula and 12-4-16 for the first 2 weeks. I had a series of follow up ?’s I asked so we will see where we get.IMG_0305.jpegIMG_0307.jpeg
