Purple stems?

this plant was grown outside for 3 months but the person who was takin care of it stopped and it almost died. so i took it and put it inside with 2 cfls. i put it in the vegetative cycle. its been there now for a month now and i just put it on the 12/12. so now it has thin purple stems and i dont know why. so any advice would help.

On my first grow every single sprout out of atleast a dozen had purple stems, apparently its really common... even one of the plants in my second grow has a purple stem. I wouldnt worry too much about it, if the plant still looks healthy besides the stem.

It means a lack of nitrogen if it's a nutrient deficiency, but it's not a huge deal like the people above said.

Purple stems mean absolutely nothing. It CAN signify a nutrient deficiency, but more times than not, it's perfectly normal, caused by wind-stress, or a genetic trait.

i agree with the above poster, it CAN be a sign of nutrient deficiency but usually its just a trait. its generally NOT a sign of nute deficiency, ive had plants and clones both having purple petioles (stem on leaf), sometimes theyll get purple streaks on the stem but its not a deficiency - i feed my babies 5 bottles of various researched & proven to be quality nutes and they always grow beautifully. this has been the case for a few different strains, side by side grows of mine and my buddy shows purple stems being a trait. on another note, im sure certain deficiencies result in purple stems, such as the need for transplanting. since your stems are VERY purple, you prolly need to transplant. generally, the leaves will get smaller and the plant will eventually get stunted.

in my plant biology class, purple stem / green leaves were generic traits that we crossed and bred. the purple on the "fast plants" that we used looked very similar to the purple on the petioles/stems of weed. also, low temps can cause this - if its 80 for day and 65 at night then your bud will purp up. also, its not necessarily a sign of nitrogen deficiency as someone stated above - nitrogen deficiencies result in yellowing leaves, dunno bout purp stems too since its so common.

id really like an indepth scientific answer to this, like how to differentiate between purple as a deficiency and purple as a trait - but like i said, typically a deficiency for transplanting will be accompanied by smaller leaves and stunted growth.

I have also found that if I sprout my seeds in my room, in a drawer, its pretty cool, maybe 65 degrees, and all the moisture in the soil with that temperature isn't good, I usually get purple seeds. But if I leave the cups in my grow room, temperatures are around 78, with much higher humidity, and I get healthy stems everytime... I think if they get too cold, they could get a purple tint, or atleast when they are first sprouting.

How cold does it get when the lights are off? and fans still blowing?

i dont know how cold but the fans stay on so i might be to cold
