Hello, I'm building an 11 plant hydro system with PVC and 2L bottles similar to the Hydro Ron model. What kind of glue do I use to connect the pvc fittings. I don't want to poison my plants! Also does anyone know some good brands of submersible water pumps for my rubbermaid reservoir. It needs to be strong enough to shoot water through 1 inch pvc up into eleven separate grow baskets. Thanks for any suggestions!

You can buy a combo pack of primer and glue. First make sure the PVC pipe ends are cut square, then clean the ends of the PVC and the fittings using a strip of emery cloth. Apply primer to interior of fittings and exterior of pipe, let dry. Coat inside of fittings and pipe with glue, quickly slip pipe into fittings with a quarter turn twist making sure the pipe seats well into the fittings. Give adequate drying time. Enjoy.

All of the PVC glue and primer is safe for plants/humans/animals after it drys.

Any pvc glue will work, personally I never used glue the system is very low pressure and didn't leak on me. Besides you leave expansion options open.

I dont know exactly what your building. But if its the PVC 2 liter bottle flood and drain system from the old High Times mag "Pot for Pennies" tutorial be careful. This is an ancient diy. The big drawback to this flood and drain is getting the over flow pipe and anti siphon correct. And and even bigger problem is the roots of your 2 liter "sites" growing down into the pvc piping and clogging up the while deal. I might be way off base but i and alot of my old pals built this system and it turned out to be more headache than it was worth. Alot of babysitting with this one. There are many more modern setups that are much more forgiving.
