Quantum ballast so hot cant touch it?

Its a digital 1000w only 1 week old. This cant be normal! It was on for about 2 hours but im not sure if the fan was running right. It smelled hot so i went to pick it up and it was like putting my hand on the stove. Anyone else have problems with quantums? Never seen a ballast get so hot before.

make sure the lamp is seated well.

It is. Been running everyday for last week but i just smelled it today. never noticed it before.

You can hear the fan. Even feel the air being blown out. Every once in a while I take a shop vac to the vents to get out the dust. if the fan is bad, quantum will replace it for free. They have a 3 year manufacture warranty on the ballasts. it should be some what hot. you shoulld be able to hold it though. i also place a little fan on top of it pointed at the ballast. that really helps keep it cool. make sure its not on the ground. have it sitting on a rack or mounted so air can hit all sides of it.

Yea i dont remeber if it was running before i noticed it was super hot. I cant hear the ballast fan with the inline running. Yea they'll replace it im sure but the ballast is 1 week old. If its having promblems i rather send it back and go to the brand i was using before. Never used quantum before just wondering if the ballst are junk?

Imo quantum ballast are the best digi ballasts. cheaper than most. I bought mine before discount hydro acquired quantum. But I doubt anything changed with quality of production. My 1000w has been running for almost 3 years and not a single issue. Quantum has won all kinds of awards too. When that ballast came out. They got most innovated product of the year. I even use their t5 badboy fixture too.

I'd hate for you to leave home or go to sleep and end up finding your home is a victim of an electrical fire... If it really got as hot as you said it did, then that's a sure sign that something isn't right and to stop using it.
