Question about Cola Quality and Direct Sunlight/Artificial Light

Does anyone know if the size or quality of the cola is impacted by that particular cola receiving direct light/sunlight? What I mean by that question is.. I have a cola that has a few leaves from another stem growing above it, that prevent the cola from receiving a direct beam of light (it grows in the leaves' shadows). I know that the majority of photosynthesis occurs in a plant's leaves, but will the cola grow bigger, or make more resin, if it is getting an unobstructed beam of light? The reason I didn't just pluck the leaves right away, is because if the plant takes a chem hit, I want those leaves to take it... Does anyone know?
